Dave Matthews Discusses Upcoming Album

Dave Matthews Discusses Upcoming Album with SeattlepiThe day before his performance at the Seeds for Compassion show in Seattle, Dave sat down for a phone interview with Seattlepi to discuss his involvement with the event and his feelings about what’s been going on in the studio with the band. Keeping in the spirit of His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Dave described the atmosphere in the studio as one of peace, love and harmony.

He revealed that it’s “the first time in years” all of the guys have just been sitting around in a circle making music together, and that they’re having “an absolute blast” working on the new album.

Throw in the mix how blessed he said they all feel to have Tim Reynolds back in the studio with them, a collaboration that hasn’t happened since Before These Crowded Streets, and it sounds like the wait for a new release will be well worth it.

How long that wait will be is still unknown, as Dave said they’re going to take their own sweet time to “make some beautiful music,” and not worry about meeting a deadline.

Some quotes from the interview include:

"We've been sitting in a circle for the first time in years, just all of us facing each other and building songs together. I'm amazed. I don't know how the hell I ended up with this gang, but at least musically we seem to be getting along. Whether people like the new music or not, that much is an amazing achievement for me, how intuitively connected we are at this point."

"All sorts of things make us go in different paths, but I've always gotten as much of Tim as I possibly could in my life. I feel I'm getting spoiled at the moment and I'm glad for it. I think I can speak for everyone in the band when I say we're all really happy that Tim's got the time for us and we have the space for him."

"We're trying to make some beautiful music, and we don't want a deadline," Matthews said. "We're going to take our own sweet time."
