"The off season" or time between tours can be a lonely place for DMB fans. No new setlists to check, no special guests (with an occasional exception,) and most importantly little news from the band.
The information vacuum of the off season has in the past created a market for rumors, misinformation and downright hoaxes. With the disclaimer that we're operating in an information vacuum, here's the scoop on DMB.

The guys are in the studio working on the new album. The producer of the album is currently unknown, but a range of guest producers have been alluded to in the past. There is an unconfirmed report that the ancient and rare DMB song "Blue Water Baboon Farm" or just "Blue Water" will be making a comeback on the new album. The song has been played only a handful of times since '93.
A recently announced Warehouse5 version 4 CD going out out to Warehouse fan club members will include the 12/8/200 Blue Water segueing into JTR. It would be another surprise if JTR were also to make the new album, as Stephan said as recently as July of 2004 that the band doesn't particularly enjoy playing JTR.
Regardless of rumors and unofficial reports, DMB is surely cooking up something in Virginia.
