Illness and injury have impacted Dave Matthews Band performances repeatedly across their history. For the most part it seems that their injuries are due to the rigorous tour schedule they attend to each year.

In tune with this week's Davespeak, we've assembled a short list of injuries the band's faced over the years. If you know of one we missed, please send it to submissions@weeklydavespeak.com
In September of 1992, Carter hurt his hand and had to sit out a few shows. Miguel Valdez filled in creating an accoustic sound for the band.
Stefan put his hand through a window, and had to sit out the July 6th, 1993 show in Charlottesville.
In June of 1999, Dave tripped over his guitar case while attempting to catch a grape in his mouth. He was quoted as saying "I busted my ass" An x-ray showed that the fall broke one of his ribs, yet he played each tour date as planned.
LeRoi Moore got very ill at the July 27th, 2003 Home Depot Center show in Carson, CA. According to eye-witnesses, Roi threw up on stage in the middle of The Stone. Several stagehands rushed to assist him from the stage and the band played without him for the remainder of the show. The DMB crew posted the following:
"Thanks to all who are concerned for LeRoi's condition. He began to suffer from a stomach virus that struck early today and against the advice of physicians, attempted to play the show tonight. The illness got the better of him just a few songs into the set and forced him to sit out for the remainder. He's fine, resting comfortably and will be ready for battle on Tuesday in Chula Vista."
It was reported by that Carter had his wrist checked out by an orthopedic surgeon on July 9th, 2004. An MRI was performed at Kings County Hospital, and he was advised to treat the condition as carpal tunnel syndrome. He's played much of the summer tour with a bandaged wrist.
A heavy touring and some partying along the way combined with a continued smoking habit increase the strain on Dave's voice. The 2002 April 15th and 16th tour dates at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY were both rescheduled due to a "doctor diagnosed strain on [his] vocal chords."
When Dave's voice goes out, fans are often treated to longer solo's from the rest of the band and songs and more singing from Boyd. This week's davespeak comes from the August 26th, 2001 Gorge show which featured an Angel from Montgomery.
