Dave's Apology
June 28th, 2004

Last night we heard the Summer Tour Debut of The Song That Jane Likes.

On friday the DMB Road Page had the following quote posted:

"If you've been to any of the past few shows, you probably noticed that the band have been playing some of the older songs a bit differently. This has been completely unplanned and unrehearsed. They've obviously been having fun turning the songs on their ends..."

DMB's recent on stage experimentation is a good sign that Dave and the boys are feeling comfortable with how the tour is going so far this year.

Playing around with songs isn't always the result of intentional experimentation. This week we have a two part Davespeak. The first is a clip of Dave and Tim, where Dave screws up the chord progression at the height of #41. Then listen to Dave apologize profusely for his errors.

Thanks to Bryan for submitting this week's Davespeak. You can submit suggestions for the Davespeak of the Week by emailing them to: submissions@weeklydavespeak.com

Listen to Dave's Guitar Flub-Up

"There's nothing quite as humbling as completely losing your mind in the middle of something right in public. I would feel less embarrassed right now if I looked down noticed I wasn't wearing my pants. You know? Cause suddenly hearing, thinking my hands are doing what they always did. Just happily comfortably going along, and instead they've betrayed me.

And I just want to let you know so you all know, that I was really embarrassed for a while. And that's why I was trying to hide behind this guitar. And I couldn't, because I couldn't fit behind it. But if I could have fit behind it I would have gotten behind it. If I could gotten into it, I would have gotten into it. So anyway, forgive me thank you.

I think really, we have the nicest audience. Because you guys forgave me for some--that was some outlandish stuff in that song. I mean Tim you didn't even look at me. For a while you thought it was some deep shit, huh? This is a minor/major shift and I was like over hear going 'Waiiieee!' What happened it was terrible. I'm not talking about it, i'm not talking about it anymore. I'm not going to talk about it!

No no no... Having already humiliated myself enough, I don't need to add any more. Shuddup, i'm not going to take my pants off. I can play my hand for that whole thing and and my voice, and its not actually me. (to hand) 'Damn fool, get this whole one right.'

And now I'm going to be afraid the whole night that I'm going to dive off the edge again, and Tim's going to be looking at me like this. And that was nice of you not to look at me, that last song by the way. Can I just say when i looked at you I mean you could have been just laughing over there. And y'all are nice too, and everyone's real nice to me. And I'm--and I'm...(to self) 'Shuddup! Would ya be quiet?!?!?'"
