Live Trax Vol. 7: Hampton Coliseum 12/31/96
A pre-order for Live Trax Vol. 7 was announced today via an email from MusicToday. The release is from the 1996 New Years Eve show in Hampton, Virginia. The show is special in part due to a lot of guest work from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.
This particular show was all general admission, which meant people were getting pushed around enough for Dave to comment on it early in the set. Dave was apparently wearing a tuxedo for the show. Another fan claims that Monk Montgomery was hoisted up on wires dressed as a baby for the new years countdown.
There are a number of highlights including a 14 minute Seek Up opener along with an improv jam between DMB and Bela and the flecktones and a drum duet between Carter and Future Man.
The show has been out considered by some to be a must-have recording for DMB fans. Both Crash Into Me (download available) and Typical Situation made it into Brandon's Top 25 Greatest DMB Guest Appearances at spots #13 and #6.
It seems appropriate that such a great DMB show would be released near its tenth anniversary and a great way for DMB fans to head into the holidays.
