DMB Song Prediction Chart
November 28th, 2005

DMB Setlist PredictorHave you ever been sitting at a show between songs, wondering what the guys were going to play next? Ever had someone annoyingly call out the name of the next song correctly over and over again?

Tired of being in the dark? Apart from having a glimpse at the setlist before the show, the best method of predicting what will be up next is a combination of two things. One part of song prediction is paying attention to the setlists of shows preceding on a given tour so far, the other is using a cool new tool developed by a WDS contributor.

Dave Matthews Band Performs Linus and Lucy
November 29th, 2005

Dave Matthews Band Linus and LucySo, you can never be too sure what DMB is going to do. One moment they are in the midst of the 2004 summer tour lacking setlist variety and squandering opportunities. *sneezes "Golden Gate"* One might expect, as many have pontificated, in the boards that the guys would roll through winter tour.

And indeed, that's how 2005 DMB winter tour started. We're talking a nice split of songs on 11/26 of seven SU songs and ten no-surprise recent tour regulars. Then again on 11/27 another seven SU's and ten more recent tour regulars.

This is about the time core fans fans began collectively rolling their eyes...

Dave Matthews Band Fans Caught in Digital War Between Labels and iTunes
October 9th, 2005

Thorny DRM Protections Turn Consumers into PricksDave Matthews Band fans are part of a group music listeners stuck between a rock and a hard place thanks to DRM or digital rights management.

According to wikipedia, DRM is "an umbrella term referring to any of several technical methods used to control or restrict the use of digital media content on electronic devices..."

Creating and selling discs that use some form of DRM is meant to discourage "casual" or "simple" piracy such as simply making an extra copy of a disc and handing it to your friend..

Carter is a badass.Weekly Davespeak had the unique opportunity to shoot from the photography pit at the Gorge Amphitheatre on Friday, August 19th.

All three nights at the Gorge were heavily discussed in our forums. Night 1, Night 2, Night 3. We also offered up links to Sunday's performance of download the first cover of The Beatles' "Blackbird" in last week's newsletter.

Bryan Rosengrant was in the pit for One Sweet World, Don't Drink the Water and Dream Girl and was able to capture a number of great 3.2 megapixel shots using a Sony Mavica MVC-CD350. Each of these photos are available in high-resolution to members of our forums.

Carter Wears a Nike Mp3 Player in Concert?
August 8th, 2005

Nike Mp3 PlayerA recent update to the crew photos page on dmband.com included some interesting photos from the 7/30/05 Randall's Island show. Shots of Carter show that he was wearing something on his left arm.

Exactly what he's strapped on isn't clear. The general consensus is that he's wearing a Nike Mp3 Player. Why would he wear this during a performance? He already wears an IEM feed in both ears--anything extra would only obstruct his movement.

Vegoose Lineup Announced - Dave and Friends Headline
August 3rd, 2005

Vegoose LogoSuperfly, the promotion company behind Bonnaroo and has announced the long-anticipated artist line-up for Vegoose. Previously it had been highly rumoured that the full DMB was to play the festival, but it turns out Dave and Friends will play instead.

Dave and Friends last played together at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, TN on June 11th, 2004. At that time there was question over whether the Dave's solo touring group would ever recollect. The 2003-2004 D+F tour included Trey Anastasio, Brady Blade, Tony Hall, Ray Paczkowski and Tim Reynolds. There's no word as to what the D+F lineup will look like at Vegoose.

With the potential return of the heralded songs from Some Devil comes the loss of anticipation of a performance of "Halloween" on Halloween.

DMB Live Trax Vol. 4 Discovered
July 15th, 2005

Discover DMBEvidence of the fourth installment in the DMB Live Trax series has appeared online unannounced. "DMB Live Trax, Volume 4" is currently available in the Dave Matthews Band Official Store, with the description "TBD"

The cover reads: "Classic Amphitheatre Richmond, VA April 30th, 1996." The choice of the 4/26 show retreats the farthest into DMB history of the DMB Live Trax releases.

4/30/96 came on the heels the Crash CD release party. On 4/29/96, DMB played two shows, one at a local night club Maxx, the other at Trax--both in Charlottesville. First #34 Performance in Twelve Years
July 10th, 2005

#34It happened. After weeks of teases and soundcheck rumors, Dave Matthews Band performed the fabled #34 for the first time in twelve years at Mansfield, MA on July 9th, 2005.

#34 was written for the late Charlottesville percussionist Miguel Valdez. See our 7/12/04 Davespeak for more information about Valdez. It was performed a handful of times in 1993 before being released on Under The Table and Dreaming and then it vanished.

It was teased once in 2002, then a few teases cropped up over the course of the 2005 tour. It was heard during recent sound checks and inspired the possibility that there may be a #34 reprise related to a background song from the Stand Up DVD in the works. See #34 Teases Draw Speculation.

Until Mansfield, #34 was just about the rarest Dave Matthews Band in the catalogue...

#34 Teases Draw Speculation Over Possible New Song (The Background Tune)
June 27th, 2005

#34The teasing of #34 since the start of the tour has had many fans wondering if this Under The Table and Dreaming piece might be making a comeback. #34 has not been played live by Dave Matthews Band since March of 1993.

It is of little surprise that there are additional DMB Stand Up sessions studio songs that have not been heard by fans--Dave has said that many tracks were recorded during their time in the studio. What is intriguing is that these background songs from the DVD may be an easter egg in plain sight (or earshot)...
