'Funny The Way It Is' Video Featured On VH1

vh1logoThe video for 'Funny The Way It Is' is now on VH1 and was featured on the June 20th Top 20 Countdown as an "Artist Spotlight".

Directed by Fenton Williams and John Crane, 'Funny The Way It Is' is very similar stylistically to the 'Eh Hee' video released in September of 2007, also directed by Williams. Completed in nine minutes and taking only one take, the video features Dave moving from scene to scene in almost puppet-like fashion.

With only partial references to the lyrics of the song and the noticeable absence of the other band members, the video for 'Funny The Way It Is' has drawn much criticism from the band's loyal fan base. Some suggesting that the Looney Tunes version of the video is much more suitable to the lyrics of the song. Even Dave himself tweeted that the Looney Tunes version was "quite magical" and suggested a "clever bastard" created it. Weekly Davespeak recently interviewed the creator of the Looney Tunes video; you can read that interview here.

However, Dave responded to the criticism via Twitter saying, "I heard that some people missed the point of my new video for funny. I love it. Had a blast making it." Whatever the point of the video may be, it seems to be lost on fans. While the beginning of the video and a few scenes here and there reflect the ironic theme of the song others leave the viewer wondering just what is the point Matthews is trying to get across.
