DMB @ Outside Lands to be First Major Live Video Stream on YouTube
The Dave Matthews Band performance at the Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco, CA will be broadcast live on the internet on video sharing giant, YouTube.
This is the first major live streaming music event of its kind on YouTube. Previously, the website held an "entertainment and multimedia" event called YouTube Live. In the world of online media that event triggered a wave speculation for YouTube's plans with live video.
One tech writer this past October suggested: "YouTube sees the writing on the wall as competitor Hulu begins to stream live broadcast events. YouTube could theoretically stream sponsored events like live concerts to build a new revenue model and expand its brand." Interestingly, Hulu chose to showcase DMB for the debut its own live streaming service this past June.
DMB is no stranger to having its shows streamed live. MSN Music, AT&T Blue Room and AOL Music have each participated in streaming Dave Matthews Band at either shows or festivals in the past. DMB is scheduled for 7:30PM Saturday, 8/29 but many other bands besides DMB are also being streamed.
