Dave Matthews Band to Perform at SOS Live Earth, Shows Chicago Love
Remember that SOS (Save Our Selves) concert scheduled for early July? In mid-February we said: "...with the new album set for release in July and the presumed opportunity to perform in perhaps the biggest concert in world history how could the band pass it up?"
Well they won't. According to a newly issued press release, Dave Matthews Band will perform at Giants Stadium in New Jersey on July 7th. But--wait a second. Hadn't the band told Lake View Citizens' Council that the reason for not playing Wrigley on July 7th and July 8th was because Dave is having a baby?
It would be understandable to ditch Chi-town for the biggest global concert in history, but would also look especially bad given DMB's local history there. So the tour starts with that odd date on July 8th in Chicago, almost a month before the tour actually picks up steam. (almanac)
Typically the band plays only a handful of songs at festivals like this, rather than a full set. The closest benefit festival on this scale that DMB has performed at was Live 8 in 2005. Like Live 8, Live Earth or SOS will be broadcast live. E! News says:
"Organizers are hoping to reach an audience of 2 billion people over the course of the 24-hour event. More than 120 networks around the world will broadcast the concerts, with NBC and VH1 airing them in the U.S. The event will also be streamed live online by MSN.com."
Tickets go on sale April 16th through TicketMaster. Giants Stadium has a capacity of 80,242 so with this lineup it'll probably sell out, folks. See Nancies' story for more info.
