As reported back in November of last year, DMB’s Stefan Lessard will have his own original compositions featured in the new documentary, Grand Canyon Adventure: River At Risk. Directed by two time Academy Award-nominated, Greg MacGillivray, the goals of the movie are to show the viewers the natural beauty of the American landscape, but also educate them on the topic of water conservation in the world with the help of music.
Because of the longstanding commitment to the environment that DMB possesses, MacGillivray thought Lessard’s addition, “will strengthen the film's conservation message and help us inspire a younger audience.” Both Lessard and MacGillivray agree that inspiring the youth is essential because future generations will decide where the future goes.
"The next generation will face the enormous challenge of better managing our planet's remaining fresh water," said MacGillivray.
“We're honored to be involved with Grand Canyon Adventure, which so movingly illustrates the urgency of the earth's freshwater crisis,” said Lessard in a press release for the film. Stefan partnered up with MacGillivray’s long time composer, Steve Wood. The two are hopeful that with the added music, awareness can be raised and generate interest on the topic of the growing water crisis.
Teva, in association with Waterkeeper Alliance, are long time supporters of DMB, and “is thrilled to be working with [Lessard] for the production of Grand Canyon Adventure," said Liz Ferrin, Promotions Manager at Teva. MacGillivray has a strong history of working with musical icons as well. His previous films have featured the scores of George Harrison, Sting, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash.
The film stars Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Wade Davis. It's slated to premiereon March 14, 2008, just in time for World Water Day on March 22, 2008.
