Dave Matthews Featured In New Movie: The Other Side

Dave Matthews Colonel Max SchreckDave Matthews has been added to the cast of The Other Side, a new independent film from London-based Intandem Films.

David Michaels makes his directorial debut, having previously worked in production and creative roles on shows such as "Reading Rainbow" and "ALF."

The film's plot is apparently as weird as Michaels' history in the entertainment history:

'The Other Side' modern-day fairy tale that gives new meaning to the old notion: 'Things aren't always what they seem.'

It's an otherworldly comedy carefully juxtaposing the touching and human with astonishing characters and irreverent humor which takes place in a world that's bizarre and twisted - replacing conventional metaphors with elements of the surreal."

Dave Matthews wrote original songs directly for the soundtrack prior to the the April 2006 press release, which describes "The Other Side" as "a highly original, twisted modern fable, 'Beetlejuice' meets 'Alice in Wonderland.'" The Intandem press release declares the film to be part of its list of films in contention for the Cannes Festival.

Dave may have been drawn to the film by its music composer Butch Vig who has previously production work includes Nirvana's highly-influential Nevermind and the Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream. He also happens to be the drummer for Garbage.

Interestingly, the film is listed on imdb as still in pre-production after over 6 months. How would Dave have penned original tunes for a film that was barely started? Just interpret the script? Please write us if you can answer this question.

Anyway, Dave was added to the films credits on 11/6/06 as the role of Colonel Max Schreck. This must be a minor or cameo character because the film also features Tim Roth, Anjelica Huston, Brittany Murphy and Ryan Gosling.

If the film is indeed Cannes worthy, the rules of eligibility for official selection include that it not be released anywhere outside the US prior the festival. The Cannes occurs in the South of France from May 16th-27th 2007. Coincidentally, Dave will be on a solo tour during February and March throughout Europe.

This is Dave Matthew's second recent movie role. Nancies reported in early October of his leading role opposite Sissy Spacek. The Other Side will be Dave's fourth time acting in a major film.

Note: Yes, you are seeing a bit of Dave in the image from this article is actually of François Certain Canrobert, from the NY Public Library Digital Gallery. Dave's eyes from the Some Devil cover have been flipped and overlayed on top of the Colonel so as to give an eyebrow raising effect.
