Many, many fans have been waiting for DMB's new album, Stand Up to leak to the internet. Their past studio album, Busted Stuff leaked a full week before the release date.

Leaks of studio albums have become so common that they have become an expectation for die-hard fans. Examples of recent albums that have leaked well in advance of their release date include Weezer's new Make Believe, NIN's With Teeth, Beck's Guero, and Wilco's A Ghost Is Born.

It is believed that advanced copies of DMB's Stand Up went out to key players as long as a week ago, yet the band's management still managed to keep a tight lid on the album.

On April 7th, six clips from Stand Up leaked when fans guessed URL's on the Warehouse website. DMB responded by asking that all fan sites take down mp3s of the new tracks and began putting one track at a time up for stream.

Nearly every song on the album had a clip released as of this morning when without any notice or announcement the entire new album went up on VH1's website for streaming. VH1's website is not set up properly to handle the Firefox web browser and as of this writing the links to the individual songs are mixed up. Mac users also reported being unable to listen to the streams.

Why would DMB's decide distribute the tunes this way? Digitally releasing music these days is an imprecise art form. By streaming these tunes on VH1's site they strengthen the bond with the channel, whom they already give early access to their music videos.

American Baby debuted on AOL's First Listen website, with an announcer reminding listeners repeatedly they were listening to AOL. It seems DMB is spreading the love in early distribution of Stand Up.

Ben Folds recently allowed his new album Songs For Silverman to stream for two hours in conjunction with a promotion at Cleveland modern alternative rock station WBWC.

Streaming the tunes this way helps bridge the gap between a potential leak between now and prior to the official release date of May 10th.

Expect exclusive access to tracks from the new album on iTunes soon.
