Dave Matthews Band Performs Linus and Lucy
November 29th, 2005

Dave Matthews Band Linus and LucySo, you can never be too sure what DMB is going to do. One moment they are in the midst of the 2004 summer tour lacking setlist variety and squandering opportunities. *sneezes "Golden Gate"* One might expect, as many have pontificated, in the boards that the guys would roll through winter tour.

And indeed, that's how 2005 DMB winter tour started. We're talking a nice split of songs on 11/26 of seven SU songs and ten no-surprise recent tour regulars. Then again on 11/27 another seven SU's and ten more recent tour regulars.

This is about the time core fans fans began collectively rolling their eyes and prepared for the guys to play Stand Up songs into oblivion while waiting out the winter tour to see if Stand Up Part Deux would turn into something worth actually standing up for. Yes, that's a burn.

Then BAM. The guys bust out a cover of Vince Guaraldi's Linus and Lucy at the Kohl Center . And that's not just a Linus and Lucy tease or segue mind you. Linus and Lucy hasn't been played since the 8.27.2000 show in Hartford, CT. If you follow that link you'll see that show also had Raven and JTR--two of perhaps the most coveted songs currently out of live rotation.

So what are they going to do here? Will L&L turn out like #34 and Time of the Season? Instantly magical, then put into regular rotation having the stardust beat off them for the rest of the tour? Or will they bust it out tastefully and sporadically over the tour, mixing in a laundry list of other songs that have been callously left out of rotation for too long?

Either way, being between albums and on their way to their 14th solid year of touring they still have something to prove. Let's hope for a happy holidays from DMB.

And it's worth mentioning that The Christmas Song was played as well. That happens to be on Christmas in the Northwest Volume 8. (Which you should buy for your friend. [Using this link])

In other news:

  • The warehouse has miraculously negotiated a greater allotment of cheap-o cabins on the D+F tour, and the backing band for D+F has been confirmed as that of previous D+F tours.
  • The Red Rocks recording sounds great.

Going to a show this tour?
