Dave Matthews Band let it all hang out at the UMB Pavilion tonight. Aside from it being the first stop on the North American tour for 2005, it also was their first show in support of their new album, Stand Up.
The big news from show is the performance of a new cover, "Time of the Season" and an incredible new lighting rig gripping the stage. During the show, a brand new leak of a studio cut of Hello Again broke featuring the full jam at the end. Read on for the details and downloads.
DMB's cover of The Zombies' "Time of the Season" was a huge surprise for fans at Maryland Heights, the first new full-band, full-length cover song from DMB since James Brown's shocking appearance in Madison Square Garden to help DMB cover "Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine." (12/21/02)
"Time of the Season" was first released on The Zombies concept album Odyssey and Oracle in 1967 but the English group broke up two weeks after the song hit the charts in the UK. The song didn't even begin to climb the charts in the United States until two years later.
DMB's performance of TOTS featured two separate solos from Butch Taylor, incredible supporting vocals from Carter Beauford, and an incredibly tight play from the band as a whole. They clearly spent a fair amount of time practicing this tune.

An amazing new lighting rig was designed by our treasured DMB crew member, Fenton Williams.
This year's rig features what look like octopus tentacles reaching up around the band. The large center screen made up of an array of LEDs has been replaced with "hundreds of tiny stars." In a moment of lucidity amidst post-show partying, one of our moderators described it as a "fucking planetarium."
The stars can change color, and during peak moments during the show came together to form the outline of the firedancer.
The boards were lit up as fans online did their best to follow the show from the real-time setlist. Things became much more interesting when a brand new leak of a studio version of Hello Again featuring the full jam at the end showed up on the web.

The Hello Again featured on the official release, Stand Up, does not include a jam. The leaked song appears to have come from a demo of the album, which leads to the possibility that more new studio tracks will be released over the course of the tour.
It may be that the person holding the songs is waiting to give DMB a chance to demo them live first.
