On July 8th, 2004 Dave Matthews will perform at Radio City Music Hall in support of the Presidential Candidate John Kerry. The event was originally scheduled for June 10th, (the night before the D+F performance,) but was postponed in honor of President Reagan's passing.
Various sources indicate that there will also be appearances from Jon Bon Jovi, Mary J. Blige, Whoopi Goldberg, Wyclef Jean, John Mellencamp, Bette Midler and Robin Williams.
Previously Dave appeared at a fundraiser for Howard Dean's presidential bid. At the end of his latest interview in Rolling Stone, (RS 940) Dave is quoted as saying "My focus is to take [the Bush Administration] out...I don't know yet who I want to endorse, but I want minds like Kucinich. I want variety."
Dave Matthews has since endorsed Kerry creating the following statement on the official DMB website:
"Whether one is talking about the economy or the environment, jobs, workers' rights or education, national security or the war on terror, John Kerry is the only choice. A vote for John Kerry is a vote for a stronger, safer, better America."
The show does appear to be sold out. If you're desperate to attend the New York Village Voice is giving away a pair of tickets to the show. You can enter to win them by giving them some of your personal information.
Reuters is reporting on rumors that DMB has been solicited to play a concert meant to upstage the Republican National Convention on the night it nominates President Bush. The event is titled "Concert for Change" and is to occur across the Hudson River from the Republican National Convention.
