Dave Matthews Band fans have received a small flurry of tour information over the past week. RollingStone.com kicked it off by announcing that the band would be playing the New Orleans Jazz Festival. But fans issued audible gasps when it was also confirmed that DMB would be playing the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival in Byron Bay, New South Wales. This will be the first time DMB has played on the continent of Australia.
On the 17th, Sony Music Australia posted a string of four more Aussie tour dates on their DMB page, including the Palais Theatre in Melbourne, the Queensland Performing Arts Concert Hall (QPac) and the State Theatre in Sydney. After a day, the dates had been taken back down off the page.
Though these dates remain unconfirmed by DMB, it makes sense that given amount of travel involved the band and crew would tack on at least a few dates surrounding the festival at Byron Bay. Each of the venues offer low-capacity (<3,000) seating compared to the sold-out stadium shows occupied by DMB in the United States.
DMB's presence at the 2005 Bonnaroo has been officially announced by the band. Bonnaroo is a large music festival that takes place in Manchester, Tennessee that has won "Festival of the Year" from Pollstar, Spin and Rolling Stone.
The 2004 Bonnaroo Festival featured headliners Bob Dylan, Trey Anastasio and Dave and Friends, drawing a crowd of 90,000. The Dave and Friends performance was the last time they would play songs off Some Devil together, and also resulted in a new improvisational jam called Good Good Time. GGT made its way into Dave Matthews Band setlists over the DMB 2004 Summer Tour.
Superfly Productions, the New Orleans production company responsible for Bonnaroo shows signs of gravitating towards the online offerings provided by MusicToday. "The Krewe of Roo" is a new community offering a small variety of member benefits including advanced tickets, eventual music downloads, an online Roo Store discount and packages for $30 a year.
This is the first known MusicToday "fan club" that has been used in support of an annual event rather than an artist with ongoing tour dates and album releases. MusicToday is owned and operated by DMB's manager, Coran Capshaw.
Rumors continue to swirl regarding what other international stops might be in the band might play. Stay tuned for up to date information on WeeklyDavespeak.com.
