 The studio recording of the song "Cigarette Lit" from Dave's recent solo effort was leaked to the internet this morning. The song was to appear on the album Some Devil but was cut because Dave did not feel that it fit with the album
Previously this song was teased briefly by Dave in London on October 25th 2001 before the Stone.
The last studio material to be leaked to the internet by Dave Matthews was his work with the band on the Lilywhite sessions. That leak prompted the playing of Fish Monkey Man aka Big Eyed Fish in concert.
The Outro to the song is a portion of Hold Me Down, an unreleased solo piece Matthews that was only performed four times in 1995 and 1996.
The following quote from Dave about Cigarette Lit appeared in Guitar World Acoustic #67.
GW: At what point in general do you start to think about an album as an overall statemnent and not just ten songs?
Matthews: Well, it's all the time. But i learned more about that on this album than with any other recording. With the Dave Matthews Band, the album that most characterizes this is Before These Crowded Streets--that album had a real cohesive quality to it, although that may have been more magic rather than a particular focus on our part.
With Some Devil, there was one song we axed called "Cigarette Lit," which despite being a great song didn't end up on the album because it was slightly oversized; it's chest was a little too full compared to everything else. When we rejected it, I asked myself, "Am I being a moron?" Now, I'm happy with that decision. Sometimes you have to let things be what they are.
