 Ben Pezzner has put together a new Dave Matthews Band piano and cello medley. After releasing the piano only version, he was gracious enough to give Weekly Davespeak an exclusive on the new cello version.
The single mp3 track recording that sixty songs from Dave Matthews Band's recorded albums, the new songs from the 2006 summer tour, Dave's solo album, Some Devil, and unreleased Dave and Friends material.
A number of things make this particular recording special. One is that it is from Ben, who we profiled back in 2004 for his acapella covers of Dave Matthews Band.
But there are also some cool notes about the recording. First, he recorded both the piano and cello tracks in one sitting. According to Ben: "Basically, I just sat down and recorded it in one take with no editing. About a third of the songs I had already played many times before, but the rest I only played once in a dry run to make sure I could play them. The ease of playing by ear coupled with the frequency with which I listen to DMB equals the ability to sit down and play through the entire catalog on a moment's notice."
Even though the song covers should be identifiable to most DMB fan's ears, the pace and sheer number of different songs blended into this recording can make it difficult to keep track of what's on. Ben tells us that even he had a tough time keeping track of his place while performing the piece: "All I used was a piece of paper with the songs written out in a list with the key for each song written right next to it. since there were sixty songs, I had to write really small, so whenever there is a long segue between songs, it's because I'm trying to find my place on the page to see what the next song is!"
