Dave Matthews Winamp Skin: Daveamp

Released: 2/04/05

Daveamp Winamp Skin

Presenting Daveamp (Download now) a WeeklyDavespeak original skin.

Presenting Daveamp, the coolest Dave Matthews Band themed Media Player Skin out there. This skin consists of two parts, the Dave module and the guitar module.

Dave has Play, Pause, Stop, Previous and Next buttons located on the body of his guitar. The Firedancer functions as the volume slider for the player. A Proudest Monkey is as the mp3 track's slider. This monkey was handily lifted from Jon Marro's Proudest Monkey DMB Sticker:

The Dave's Guitar Case module has a song timer, scrolling song title information and a mini visualizer on it. It sits next to Dave so feel free to throw some coins in.Daveamp Skin Guitar Case

Why Winamp?

With so many media players out there, one might ask: "Why did you create the skin for Winamp, and not iTunes, or Windows Media Player, or some other god-forsaken player?" The answer is because Winamp is the player used by tried and true veterens of digital music.

Winamp also has plugins for popular taping audio formats such as SHN and FLAC. It is a light player, and is available free without any spyware, advertising or malware. Finally, Winamp was conceived by the very cool coder Justin Frankel.

Installation Instructions

There are some instructions to follow in order to get your Daveamp working properly.

  1. Download and install the free FULL version of Winamp. The Lite version does not contain support for Modern Skins. Daveamp is a modern skin.
  2. Download Daveamp somewhere on your computer and execute (double-click) it. Executing a .wal file should automatically load Winamp and ask you if you want to install a new skin. Chose Yes.
  3. You should now see Dave. Play an mp3 by dragging it onto dave or double-clicking it and you should see the proudest monkey on its branch. Dave's Guitar case should also show by default. If you don't see the guitar clase, Right-click Dave then make sure there is a check mark next to "Dave's Guitar Case."
  4. If you are still having trouble, such as not seeing the Proudest Monkey properly, you may have to enable Alpha Blending on your Winamp player:

How to enable Alpha Blending on Daveamp:

  1. Right-click Daveamp, choose Options->Preferences
  2. On the tree at the left, choose Skins->Modern skins.
  3. Select the Alpha Blending tab. (Second from the left)
  4. Make sure that the Enable Desktop Alpha Blending box is checked.
  5. Click close.

If you are still having trouble getting the Proudest Monkey track progress slider to appear, it may be that you are using winamp to play an audio stream. There is no progress bar for an infinitely long audio peice and thus no monkey.
