Default Everyday-why?

Hey all
I am a long time fan, and I understand the basic intricacies of the band with regards to their history. I don't post much, but I have always wondered: Why did DMB pick Ballard and go with Everyday? Researching it minimally, I have seen things like this across the various internet fan websites:

"to bring in fans not into the traditional DMB sound"
"to tap into the current pop/rock thing and bring in new listeners"
"they were silghted by the LWS leak"
"Dave's ill-advised blind faith in Ballard"
"every band must have a zenith"-(haha)
"DMB had to reinvent themselves"
"Dave just really wanted to rock with an electirc"
"calculated plan to tap a new audience"

and simply "the band just wanted to explore a new direction"

So- I ask, what is your opinion? Not trying to over analyze, just typing out loud.

I couldn't disagree more. I think the only two songs I'd want to hear live again are Everyday and Fool To Think, possibly When the World Ends. Other than that, nothing hit me on this album at all. I felt like Dave was up in front, and the rest of the band was far, far away on this album, you just don't hear everyone as much.

the lyrics for most of those songs are indisputably brilliant - whether or not the band is there those songs and the lyrics are phenominal and for that reason alone you have to give this album credit as being a success (i'm not sure anything the band could put together including stand up could be considered 'bad')

but its a good album and deserves to be recognized as such -

i'm with you best of whats around!

I happen to LOVE everyday. THe lyrics are awesome and it's a very upbeat and fun album to listen to. It always puts me in a good mood no matter what.

I don't mind the album either. But, I had a different idea for the direction of this thread. I was not looking for an opinion of Everyday; that is a bit of a dead horse. I was really trying to see what y'all thought of the reasoning behind Everyday. I think my original post was explains it better. Maybe not

not just simply 'it was the band's next album', but rather what was really behind the decision to go with Ballard and the Everyday album.
