Yes and yes.

I liked Michael Franti and Spearhead in '08 and definitely wouldn't mind seeing them again.

Ha yeah. got to see them at a free concert put on by our city. Pretty good for sure!

Question though - how many of you actually go see the opening act? In all honesty I can't remember the last time I saw an opener. I'm almost always out drinking or doing whatever in the parkinglots or at a campground prior to the show. I just make sure I'm there for the downbeat of the first song from DMB.
Not that I don't like the openers or anything like that, just that I'm usually too busy enjoying myself to rush in for them.

I would make an exception for Robert Randolph and family.

I almost always go in for the opening act. If I like them I stay, if not I leave. The only exception is Alpine because it is so hard to leave the tailgate early to make the opening act.

Also if it's GA, the opening act makes a huge difference. RR&FB were great at Principal Park in '09 for an opening act. We'd been in our spots since 5 and in line for hours before that. It's a lot of standing around! They came out w/ great energy and it was the perfect pick me up before DMB came out.

They have opening acts!?!? OK, really the only time I'll see one is if I have GA or if it's a band I like. Alpine's had some really solid openers in the past I've enjoyed, Robert Randolph (originally saw them GA in 02 there and then years later), The Black Crowes (hell yes), and I WAS going to see The Zac Brown Band on N2 this year, but that.....failed to happen.

And yes, tailgating is all too fun with the WDS crowd at Alpine these past 3 years!

Mumford & Sons
Robert Randolph
John Butler Trio
Jason Mraz
MF and Spearhead
Amos Lee
G-Love -- He's coming out with a new album this year
Zac Brown Band - I was pleasantly surprised how much I didn't hate them the 5 times i saw them open in 2010.
Umphrey's McGee
Old Crow Medicine Show
Donavon Frankenreiter

All these bands/artists I've seen open shows before (with the exception of M&S) and they've all been great Like some of y'all, if I like the band, I'll go in to see them. Although that's alot harder to do at Alpine.
