Default DMB 2011 Tour: Taking a Year Off

So by now we all are well aware that the band will be taking 2011 off and that for the first time since I can remember we will be without an official tour. And with that it begs a few questions that are worthy of discussion:

1. Is not having a 2011 Tour a GOOD or BAD for the band and its direction?
2. Does the band return in 2012 to an official Tour?
3. Will Jeff Coughlin remain with the band?
4. Will 2012 be a throw back or a pivotal turning point for the band with new direction?

1. I think it's good for the band in general. They are human beings just like all of us. They need time with their families and personal lives. With Dave having that new child recently I think it's important for him to stay close with his family for that year off. This will also give Fonz some time with his side band which kicks ass as well.

2.The band will return. I am friends with a woman who's uncle drives for Boyd and she told me a few days back that the tour is happening because her uncle was given his normal tour plans for driving. Nothing odd she said. So it looks to be good.

3. Jeff Coffin... not Jeff Coughlin. Who knows if he stays. I really want a sax player on board though. It wouldnt be the same without sax. We all grew to love and embrace this band with the sound of Roi' and his sax and I couldn't see the songs without the horn.

4. I think 2012 will be a throw back year. I really don't see them touring extensively after 2012. These guys arn't young pups anymore. I'm hoping for an "unreleased" song cd to come out in the next few years. After seeing the studio "Sugar Will" being done with Dave on that FUSE special last year, I'm more than excited to hear that on an album. Can you even imagine what that would sound like? Gives me chills just thinking about it. I think it was Part 3 of 4 on the Fuse special. Correct me if i'm wrong though. I haven't seen it since last year.

It will definitely be an exciting return to the stage though!

1. After being sad foe a little while I think it is a great thing they are taking break. I think it will lead to some great songs being written. They owe it to themselves to take a break.

2. They absolutely will return in 2012 for a regular tour. This break will make them more eager than ever.

3. I see coffin being the bands first pick for that position and I think Jedd is very happy playing in the band so if I was a gambling man I would bet on him being back.

4. New album will bring a new direction but I really do want that unreleased comp to be releases.

1. A year off couldn't hurt at all... Idk what the boys will do with so much time on their hands though lol. I hope they get back into the groove with studio work and or practice sessions for the first shows back so they don't squeak and honk.

2. Yes. Yes. Yes.

3. I'd guess yes, but who knows what he'll decide in his time off (from DMB at least...)

4. More new work must come out by end of 2012 atleast I say... if it will be ready for the 2012 tour... who knows.

The only one I'm ever worried about being out of tune musically is Boyd.
They are professional musicians. I've played guitar now since I was 13 off and on a lot. You really don't lose that much tone.... that is unless you don't touch your instrument for that whole year off hahahah which they won't do that.

Ohhhh man! For sure! Why did they ever release Piedmont!? Dave can make some of the oddest sounds when his throat isn't healthy.

Piedmont is completely awful.. I still remember that Florida Webcast they did a year or 2 back. Dave was definitely not feeling well. His voice made me cringe.

Anyone think there is a chance of a Dave Solo album with the year off? I know that he made Some Devil due to him writing songs that he said, " Didn't fit the band" so he went into the studio and layed them down for a solo album. I feel that the B sides to Whiskey felt a lot like Some Devil B sides. Write A Song and Beachball fit that.
