Is anyone here against file sharing or for it? Also, does anyone happen to know where DMB stands on this issue?

That is true..Dave has been found saying many times that he doesnt mind people sharing the files,etc.. He is not like Metallica and againest the issue...
But 1 question ...Why must I not have a recording device at his shows if he is for this ? I got mine taken away at the last show ..I wasn't going to sell it, I just wanted to remember that moment .... I hear that they have a table at teh front of the concert for people to put there devices to record.. how do all of these live shows get on napster, etc if you can tell people recorded them???? thanks ....just curious if anyone knows how to record at shows......

Which show were you at when they took your equipment away? Was it only audio equipment or did you have some kind of camera too? My understanding is that part of the band's agreement with each venue is that all audio recording equipment is allowed in to the show. You don't have to have a special "taper ticket" but they are available at most shows. I've heard that some poorly informed security guards have been giving people trouble trying to bring audio equipment into some of the venues on this tour. If this were to happen again, I would attempt to explain DMB's taping policy--then ask to talk to the the security guard's manager. Here's an excerpt from the taping policy on the dmband.com's legal page: Taping Dave Matthews Band allows audiotaping at almost every live performance. We feel that each show is unique and want to offer our fans the opportunity to recreate the live experience through the audio reproduction of our shows. At all taping authorized performances, tapers can tape from any ticketed seating location in the venue. Also, for many of these performances tapers are able to purchase tickets for a specially designated taper section, normally located immediately behind the soundboard. No soundboard or power feeds are provided. You can view the whole policy by visiting dmband.com and clicking on the tiny legal link at the bottom. (its a pop-up window) Once you've recorded a DMB show, you are also allowed to distribute it to others as long as you are not selling it. If I remember, a few years ago there was some issue with posting DMB live recordings for download and some huff-and-puff about requiring that the music be traded to build on the DMB community. Anyone remember this? Rob |

Yea but Napster costs money, I would assume he didn't have a problem with free file sharing, he doesn't seem like someone who would, very charitable guy.

I know DMB sells taper tickets and you can download those shows at bt.etree.org. You can also do b&p trades at the DMB Warehouse site.

I remember that huff and puff about not being able to download. Thats why Etree took all their live recordings off. Which is why I do not understand why Ants gets to keep theirs up. Do not get me wrong I dl shows from ants and trade them out, im not complaining but is there some type of arangement with ants? I also do not know y people do not share shns through IRC, You can zip/rar the show , get into an irc DCC application such as MIRC. IM the other DMB fan Initiate the connection between the 2 like you would in AIM. and just let it go. Its all pretty easy. and you have a good time chatting up with fellow DMB fans in Chat room.
If anyone is interested in trying this out let me know. Ill be happy to work with anyone on it. Chris |

In part I think that dmb backed off from enforcing their download policy as soon as they realized what it would take to police it, and the ill-will it was causing in the fan community. Plus the rule was somewhat ambiguous. The idea was to spur further fan interaction by preventing simply spread of the live music. For instance, requiring registration on these boards in order to download DMB music might be seen as increasing fan interaction, but is that really better than just being able to download a whole show from eTree? Its questionable, and in the end it appears to be basically defacto defunct. r |
