I'd be surprised if DMB stepped into a somewhat tumultuous territory...

hmmm... postponing the first shows that have sold out....hardly having a foot on the European market this is the best way to get rid of sympathies...bad decision and I feel sorry for the scandinavian fans and everyone who now cannot go to these two shows....and lose alot of money by cancelling flights, hotels and so on...

The red balloon is somewhere in Northern Italy!!!

Vienna, Capital of Austria, is Wien in german (official language in Austria) and mentioned on the map as Wien a few inches more to the right
...hopefully DMB will find the city and the venue... LOL

Default Band of ugly people ?! :-)

Hi,

Today I have found a nice article on the website of the main news show in Switzerland:

http://www.tagesschau.sf.tv/Nachrich...-entert-Europa

Here's is a translation made by FireFox....

« Band of the ugly people » boards Europe

Wednesday, 10th February, 2010, 5:43 o'clock, updated 08:18 o'clock

The Dave Matthews Band is one of the most peculiar phenomena of the younger rock history: Founded in 1991 at the height of the Grunge wave, she fell with two jazz musicians and a violinist as well as a singer singing in the dearest folk by all grids. However, with untiring tours in the USA she won to herself loyal supporters.

Dave Matthews: We cannot say that our appearance has brought us upwards. We were at least badly dressed. Now where we become old, everyone starts looking equally ugly .... »

35 million pieces were sold only by eight studio albums. « When we started, it seemed quite unlikely that we find an audience », says the 43-year-old Matthews. « Us pursues still a strange feeling not to be able to believe all that. »

At the middle of February he comes with his band to Europe, among the rest, to Austria, Italy and Germany.

By the backdoor in the theater slipped

« I have always the feeling that this band has slipped by the backdoor in the theater », tries Matthews to explain the uniqueness of this successful history. And also a crowd of good-looking young men who became in the 90s of popular Boygroups superstars has never been his band.

« Anyhow we are the band of the ugly people. We cannot say that our appearance has brought us upwards. We were at least badly dressed. Now where we become old, everything start looking equally ugly .... », broods Matthews.

Why do we play what we play?

Besides, he does not know at all really, why his band plays this what she plays. « At that time I was a big Grunge fan, I liked all kinds of music. This also counts to all the others in the volume. Then, however, we started playing rather between folk music and rock music. However my drummer (Carter Beauford) played coalescence up to great jazz. My saxophonist, my late saxophonist (LeRoi moors), also simply played jazz. When we played together, there was a reaction, a chemistry which generated a certain kind of openness. And this has changed and has further developed. However, it is still the result of this confusion. »

Unpredictable band

One could also say: The Dave Matthews Band is unpredictable, no concert plays like the other, has lost till this day not her uncontrollable play joy and desire to the experimentation.

Their latest album "Big Whiskey und the GrooGrux King" (alerter) is for it a suitable example - folk meets rock meets jazz at a danceable level, never academically and, nevertheless, incredibly capably.

Live albums without end

« I feel linked with the music and the audience, but in odd way uncoupled from him what one calls music industry », says Matthews whose band appears for many years completely on top in the top list of the sales-strongest Live-Acts in the USA.

His commercial model is different from the outset: Beside untiring tours he placed from the outset to produce many live albums. 14 official publications are it, in the meantime. Still it is for him the pure joy to play musik, the cohesion and the fun in the volume is great.

In Europe the audience does not know us exactly

« I am glad about Europe and to play before an audience which knows us not exactly », stresses Matthews.

Besides, he is aware of the tolerance of the single band members completely: « If we play together, is there still this openness, Carter can play his jazz and sing an odd folk song me. But for which reason also always gathers always in a nice kind. This is the luck of an alchemy in which to us our differences have brought together - and not the search for a common base. This base is there, although we are so different. »

Own measures against the "foot impression CO2"

Meanwhile the completely tallness of the music branch also copies the DMB model to publish possibly many live recordings. Also a Paul McCartney has published in this decade just a lot of Live-wie studio productions - in each case three.

« The people want to be reminded more directly of the live experience », Matthews explains the trend. « Is connected more directly with the concert experience more and more that what will be a music. And hopefully leads in addition that more people themselves play music. It is one of the bad luck of the mass-produced music that it has discouraged accidentally people to learn even an instrument. Everybody should be able to play an instrument! Hundred years ago much more people had a notion, at least they sang. »

Thousands come with Velo to the gig

Matthews and his tape have supported president Barack Obama in his election campaign, with the subject of climate changes he tries to reduce considerable "foot impression CO2" with countermeasures his by the tours by heavy trucks and buses.

« I am a huge contaminator », he says. To diminish this, he gives his fan's incentive to travel "more green" to the concerts: CDs or a discount gets who uses driving communities or comes by the bicycle. « The last year we had with a concert 60 ' 000 people, and many of those - I have no precise number - came by the bicycle. »

Matthews tour as a Eco-Trip

Buses and truck would be refuelled with biodiesel, the tour baggage train travels with own recycling stations, food is covered possibly on site from home production.

He invests in wind strength arrangements, supports educational projects to create environment-conscious being. « I am not still contented long, I think, we can still act even more. I will be contently if we bring the planet again in the balance. »
