Smile New to All of this

Hi Everyone
I am completely new to all of this, and am not sure if I am even posting in the right site, apologies if not. I am trying to collect some material, and have run into alot of difficulties. At first I was on dreamingtree and had no idea what I was doing. Next I was trying to download, and windows kept telling me it was an unrecognized file....I downloaded "Monkey Media" to be able to access flac files. I hope that was alright. Next I read some about torrent files, and just went and ?opened? the one I have so it can be shared....I am still not sure how to play it, or even burn it...Does anyone know also how I can eventually get some of this music over to Itunes? Am I making too much work for my self, or should I just try the good old fashioned way of responding to the offerred B & P's. I did go out and get all the necessary equipment, that was listed @ McNichols...
I really appreciate this site, and everyones help. Would love some info to come my way,Thanks in advance...btw a really stupid question...how are these people recording the concerts? Does the band allow them to bring in recording material??? Wish I had something to "give Back" or "pay forward"
again thanks for your help, and sorry I got so "winded"

check out the bit torrent crash course. there's a lot of good information there regarding how to download torents, convert them, etc.

you will eventually be able to get what you downloaded into itunes. in a nutshell, you download a torrent file (small file, directs your computer where to get the actual show from) and then use your bit torrent client to actually download the show. you'll end up with lossless files in flac or shn. you can then convert those files to wav (also lossless), mp3 (lossy), m4a (is that what itunes is in? either way, it's lossy)

b&ps are a great way to obtain live shows. you may find that the show you want is not available via bit torrent. someone may have the show in their collection, but may not have the time to upload it. however, they may have the time to burn discs for you if you send them the blanks. b&ps can also be a great way to go if you are running out of space on your computer, have a slow connection, etc.

the band has an open taping policy; it states
:

Quote:
Dave Matthews Band allows audiotaping at almost every live performance. We feel that each show is unique and want to offer our fans the opportunity to recreate the live experience through the audio reproduction of our shows. At all taping authorized performances, tapers can tape from any ticketed seating location in the venue. Also, for many of these performances tapers are able to purchase tickets for a specially designated taper section, normally located immediately behind the soundboard. No soundboard or power feeds are provided.

Taping is limited to audio-only, using only microphones. Wireless receivers are strictly prohibited. We sincerely appreciate all of our fans, so we ask that you please be considerate of those around you by not obstructing anyone else's view of the performance.

When taper tickets are available for a particular show, they are released concurrently with general seating tickets. To obtain designated taper tickets, contact the venue's box office.

All recordings must be used for personal use or trading only. Selling or commercializing any recording is illegal and will jeopardize taping privileges for everyone. Please read our Bootleg Statement for more information.

In addition to helping fans recreate the live experience, we hope tape trading will foster greater interaction within the fan community. Any method of trading that does not involve personal fan interaction defeats the spirit of this goal of the taping policy and is not authorized. In particular, posting audio or video files on web sites for streaming to or downloading by the public, is not authorized.
