This thread may very well end up changing topic, which will probably mean this thread ends up somewhere else, but it's starting off as a DMB discussion:

I was reading an article on Grantland.com, the author of which had attended a Creed and Nickelback show in the same night. Let's just say I'm glad he did it so the rest of us don't have to.

Anyway, he had a paragraph about the 5 most hated bands of the last 20 years, said he almost included DMB on that list, but didn't. Here was his reasoning:

"If you criticize DMB within earshot of even one of their fans, you will be forced to justify every negative feeling you possess to the fullest extent of the law. You will end up having a 20-minute conversation about Boyd Tinsley's mandolin playing. The only people crazier than fans of Dave Matthews are fans of Tori Amos (who, by the way, I love and will not accept criticism of)."

Except for the part about playing mandolin, that pretty much sums it up, haha. Just thought I'd share. For those who want to read the rest of this entertaining article:

If someone tells me they don't like DMB, I question them until they give up or change their mind.

It's a shame, because it's their loss, really.

I'll ask a friend's opinion and they'll say they don't like them, it hour even listening, they'll also make fun of how much I love Dave Matthews.

And I'll reply with, "...Band, Dave Matthews Band, it's not just Dave Matthews, the group of guys behind him are crazy talented, and half the time I don't listen to the lyrics, just the authentic music they can perform at any given concert. No tapes, no dubbing, nothing, all intruments"

This is the look I get:

This is a pretty good article although it does not change my opinion of Creed and Nickelback (They both blow). But it's interesting to see why they are liked. Also the guy who wrote this, Chuck Klosterman, is a great writer. He's written some books about pop culture and a couple fiction ones that are great. The part about DMB is pretty funny though although I am sadden to learn that he is not a fan.

haha...hey...the way i see it, thats one more ticket available for me to buy. I love the band and have my group of fans that are die hard just like i am...so this guy hating them just leaves more tickets for me to buy. So i guess a "thanks" is in order.

It's true, we DMB fans do argue like lawyers that they're the best Band in the world, with a raging veracity for defense, as if someone has called one of our children dumb or ugly.

"Dave Matthews Band, it's not just Dave Matthews, the group of guys behind him are crazy talented" - probably my number 1 argument in the defence of the band, I don't agree about the lyrics though, think Dave is one of the best lyrycyts of all time... well pre-Everyday anyway. I also like to argue that they're probably the most respected band on the planet, by other great bands. The proof comes in the fact that so many great musicians line up to play with them from Bella Fleck to Trey Anastasio to James Brown!
"I like Everyday, other than that they suck" - This is a funny but popular sentiment, why do so many DMB haters like that perticular song? If it's the album they're talking about, you can rest assured they no nothing about music.

Olympia, WA is so lousy with hipsters and punks that to dare to love something as "mainstream" as DMB receives instant scorn.
I feel like I live on a little DMB deserted island. But then I think "at least I'm only 3.5 hours from the Gorge!"

your gonna see hipsters at any DMB show so id get over that
