I totally agree. When I listen to Dave's music it is more than just the singer. A DMB instrumental brings the same emotions as a vocal track.

I think the subtlety here is that some people would NOT watch a Dave cover band. Why watch a copycat when you could just listen to the real thing? Phil doesn't offer anything different or unique that we all haven't been listening to for a long time.
Does singing Nice & Slow while playing Typical Situation take talent? Certainly, but I could just... you know... listen to Typical Situation.

For all the haters, there is always the option to not watch/pay attention to the show/Phillip Phillips.

American Idol is basically a glorified karaoke competition, so I would much rather see someone doing a solid Dave impression than be stuck watching someone stumble through Heart/Adele/Mariah Carey/etc. AGAIN. He is different, he is entertaining. Let him do his thing and don't hate him because he has good taste in music.

Well obviously. But that doesn't change my opinion. I haven't watched American Idol in like 3 years, I only watched the videos posted in this thread out of curiosity and that's my take on it. He's clearly a great singer, I just wish he'd so something more special with it.

I think it's great that he's still in the game...because there are a TON of people that like him and have NO CLUE that he sounds similar to Dave. WHOA, watch out, new fans are on the way and that makes me HAPPY! I asked a few DMB haters what they thought of him and they loved him. Again, I like that a lot

Probably one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time, and I thought he did a great job. Sounded good, changed it way up from the original and didn't massacre it in the process. I have not even watched a minute of AI this year, and only have read everyone's comments about this guy here in this thread. I definitely see a bit of Dave in his performance and mannerisms, but as far as being a rip off I have to strongly disagree. I mean there have been many contestants over the years who have had very similar styles to many other artists and the big deal that is being made about this guy was not made about them (in my opinion)

I think just because we as Dave fans are so in tune with Dave's own style and mannerisms there seems to be a much more critical outspokenness about this guy which is a shame because he is pretty dang talented. Set aside for a minute the way he contorts his face and moves his legs and feet and listen to him sing. Do it like they do it on The Voice (yes I watch The Voice, traded AI in for Adam Levine ) and either close your eyes or turn your back and listen to him sing. You wouldn't know he acts so much like Dave if you did, and you wouldn't be so distracted from his singing abilities by watching and comparing him.

Just my two pennies for whatever they are worth.
