Dave Matthews to Perform in MusiCares Benefit Honoring Neil Young
On January 29, 2010, Dave Matthews will join a host of talented artists including Jackson Browne, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, K.D. Lang, John Mellencamp, Ozomatli, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Wilco and others who will come together for a MusiCares benefit to honor Neil Young as MusiCares® 2010 Person of the Year. Neil Young will be honored at a special event in Los Angeles which will celebrate his exceptional artistic achievements and philanthropic work. Proceeds from the annual MusiCares Person of the Year tribute — now in its 20th year — provide essential support for MusiCares, which ensures that members of the music community have a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need. For more information on the work of MusiCares and the 20th Anniversary Tribute Benefit, visit MusiCares.com. This is off of dmband.com...damn you Cathy! I was hoping to read NYC but no...it has to be on the other side of the country. First Vegas, now this?!? Et tu Dave...

You truly are a major supporter if you'd rather see TR3 over all of those classic bands. Jackson Browne alone would make it worth it for me. I respect your descion though.

Guess I'll be the first to show Neil some love. DMB turned me on to Neil with their Cortez the Killer covers about 8 or 9 years ago. Since then I have become a huge Neil fan and he is my favorite artist besides DMB. I had the opportunity to see him in concert last winter and it was real treat. I hope DMB are still rocking and touring when they are as old as Neil is now. Neil has inspired generations of songwriters, musicians, and bands. We owe alot of today's popular music to sounds and styles that Neil developed over his long career. Besides DMB and the guest list for this tribute show, U2, Coldplay, Radiohead, the entire Seattle 90's grunge (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden etc.), Led Zepp, Springsteen, and Paul McCartney and many other artists have paid tribute to Neil or been influenced by him in a huge way. In my mind, and in the minds of his peers, Neil Young stands in elite company with people like Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, and The Beatles as being one of the artists that has had the biggest influence on the music that we listen to today. It awesome that Dave and the band or close to Neil and have had so many chances to collaborate with him and cover some of his enormous music catalog.

Here's a video of Dave doing Needle and the Damage Done last night. The video seems to be taken from the back of the room but the audio quality is pretty good.
