you go to the USER CP and choose edit avatar...there used to be stipulations to have an avatar (you had to have a certain # of posts and had to be registered for a certain period of time) but i'm not sure if that's still the case...check it out! that is what you wanted, right?

and they say it's not the years... it's the MILEAGE~~ whatever that means...

1970 was a fine year, IMHO.... and i don't mind that i was conceived in the 'summer of love' rather than the cold war

also, the word 'addiction' connotes an affliction to be overcome... i prefer to call it a healthy indulgence... my kids (6 and 7) who went to their first dmb shows last summer would agree http://weeklydavespeak.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin2.gif

this concept escapes my 16 yo sister (born 3 weeks into my freshman year of college)... who when i suggested she go to a record store to find a birthday gift asked ~~ WHAT'S A RECORD STORE? http://weeklydavespeak.com/forums/images/smilies/confused2.gif

i explained that once upon a time, CDs were not portable, writeable, or downloadable. before cell phones, vcrs, nintendo, and mtv, we had to walk across the room to change the channel on the tv (among the four stations) and we played our music on black, 12" vinyl discs... that you couldn't play in the car or in study hall. we traded cassettes tapes of live shows by mail and the handwritten setlists were often the only way to distinguish what you were listening to.... at this point she dismissed me as a "dinosaur"...

The dreaded atari contoller. Ergonomics simply didn't exist back then. You could practically hear the tendons in your hand screaming, "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH". I can't play on one of those for more than an hour at a time before my hand starts cramping up.

Wow, so Christmas time is busy for you. I'm glad my birthday isnt around Christmas.

It kinda sucks, but for me...I ALWAYS have a party to go to on my b-day! But, when June comes around, I could use some presents. So, my friend and I started celebrating 1/2 birthdays. It's cool. We go out and exchange something small when it's exactly 6 months after/before our birthdays.

I just celebrated my 1st time for a half b-day on July 1st, as my real birthday is January 1st. It's almost always sucked for me to be honest! Presents were less, NONE of my friends wanted to go out on my b-day since they partied too much the night before, and I'm not a fan of sharing it on New Year's Eve since nobody would remember it's my b-day anyways! So yes, I'm bitter with my b-day thank you very much :feelbette

Aren't Half Birthdays fun? How was your first? How did you come about it?

I was bitter for a very long time, but decided to embrace it. Not like I can go back in history and change it, right? A lot of people forget it (not that I can see how that is possible!) and I get offended, but oh well. The thing that irritates me the MOST is when I get my b-day presents and they are wrapped in Christmas paper!!! WTF???? How cheap can people be? So, when I get one of those, I make a mental note and wrap their presents in Christmas paper on their birthday....even when it's in June. They look at me funny, but they get the message!
