That is hysterical, because until Farm Aid I would have asked the same thing!!! I only know because I watched the livecast waiting for Dave.

He is a country singer. I laughed hysterically because he sang a song called "She thinks my tractor's sexy"!!!!

Also, when you consider how recently Kelly Clarkson hit the scene, just being in the top 20 is pretty amazing! I mean she beat out Springsteen?

Kenny Chesney is a great performer....OUTSTANDING musician and just a likable guy I think. That, and keep in mind that MOST country music stars have at least 2 cds coming out a year, so that helped I'm sure. He's basically the hottest country star since Garth and does a good job of holding that.

And as for the rest of the list, the GREAT thing to keep in mind, concert wise, is how CHEAP DMB concerts are compared to just about everyone else. Floor tickets at the Qwest Center (through TicketMaster) were the same for nose bleeds. Compared to hundreds for U2, Stones, Paul and a lot of others. DAMN DMB is good stuff and good to us :)

It would be interesting to know how many on this list are taper friendly. Is there a place out there that lists them?

with the extensive touring and constant record releases of dmb, i would have though he would be higher

but you cant argue with $60 million

i think if they were all priced equally (as far as ticket sales), DMB would have come out higher on the list.

I agree - I think taper friendly bands get great attendance at their concerts - and DMB sold out all or almost all their concerts this past year.

Do you all think, however, that taper friendly bands lose out on album sales? This was after all the combination of tickets and album sales. Or would they have come out higher if SU were better received by long-time fans?

you could try archive.org - any artists there are taper friendly (granted they may not show up and still be taper friendly...)

maybe they would have done better if stand up had been a better album. period. that's actually a good question, libby. in the past year i probably added the most live shows to my collection but this year was the first time i attended more than 2 shows( and i bought the new cd, wotr, and the live trax, not to mention 2 posters, a calendar, stickers, etc - having a "big girl" job has its perks)

i would have to say that i think being taper friendly opens the doors to even more sales (especially their live stuff). before i found WDS, i hadn't ventured much into their live cd's (aside from central park). since i started downloading their shows, it has whet my appetitie to collect all of their live releases and i now have several in my collection, including the WOTR. i don't think i would have gone there if i hadn't started downloading their taped live shows.
