I hope I completely offend some people by this (you know who you are), but both nights had their share of snobby little rich kids who thought they were God's gift to DMB, even if it ment pushing people over, cuttling lines to get food of all things, running into and over people in wheelchairs while leaving the venue, and leaving all their trash behind.
Despite the crazyness I also fault the event organizers for doing a piss poor job on traffic control and direction again this year. Sat we drove up and down fifty, each gate telling us we had to go to the other, people were getting really pissed and driving like asses. After the show they had absolutely no lot attendents, they have two troopers trying to control 30K people exiting through two exits. Its actually amazing more people were not injured:thumbsdow

Well said, DaveL! I was fortunate enough to be surrounded mostly by great DMB fans, and people here at WDS are awesome, but some people...
And some venue suck!!! I could do a better job routing traffic and parking cars than that! Ford Montage in Scranton is the worst!!!
And, if it was anything like there, when you leave the concert, some have had a drink or two, it's pitch black, terrible traffic pattern's, and a few impatient jerks. I'm grateful we don't hear of this kind of thing more often!

that is a shame.. this year in Hartford we were the 2nd to last vehicle to leave the lot. for a couple of reasons it was getting rowdy with cars honking when your not going to move anyways. and plus we were in the middle of a poker game..

thats really sad, the worst thats ever happened to us after a concert was a little fender bender, i never thought anything along those lines could happen at a dmb concert, especially the way the crowd is controlled where i go.

I agree with Dave, I dont think that there is enough control at the DMB venues period, last year I went to Marysville, Ca 8 months pregnant and they put me up in the handicap section and towards the end of the concert there were a ton of people crowding me and falling on me and trying to sit in my lap, I was so upset! Luckly I wasn't hurt and Paige was fine. But I wasn't getting much help at all from the staff. That is such a shame that someone lost there lives out there. I bet everyone involved feels terrible about it.
AT least I hope....

I was on the bridge with my friends and heard it happen, saw only a quick part of a dark truck driving away just after hearing the sound, thinking it was a car hitting another car. Such a sad, sad, thing. At every show I hope for the safety of everyone as they come and leave. It is amazing to me more people are not injured, due to impaired drivers and pedestrians.
Being sad and sorry for the family of the victim is not enough. We need to look out for one another and think long and hard before getting so drunk or high all control is lost. It seems to me the most important think anyone can do in memory of this person, is to learn from what happened and not let it happen again.
Fun can be had without being irresponsible, driving while impaired, trashing parking areas, and endangering ones self by over indulging time after time.
Something tells me that the words, "Eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die", are not meant to say, lose control, be crazy and take chances, because tomorrow you might not be able to do that.
My heart goes out to those closely involved in the accident in any way. It will not be easy to put out of their minds for some time if at all. May the family of the victim be comforted in time.
Peace, Love, DMB

how do you take off after hitting someone, esp after a dave concert. i would think the man would have at least a bit of kindness to stop and take care of the guy, hell he might have had even saved the kids life. but to take off, thats sad the driver will be living with this for the rest of his life, how do you wake up in the morning?

That was well said Jackie! (and im so sad i missed you! i didnt even know you were coming out this way!!)
As for the driver, I bet it was a kid(s) who were prob driving when they werent supposed to and got really scared. Esp if they were underage. And im sure they are having a hard time looking in the mirror, who wouldnt? But none of us are in thier shoes so its hard to judge. According to our home paper, they were able to get a plate number from someone and have a suspect. It really is awful what happened. SPAC is a wonderful, beautiful venue and its a sad way to end a wonderful weekend. My heart goes out to the family and friends of the victim.

That is horrible, I hope they find whoever did it. It's sad that something like this has to happen for people to take a step back and think. Let's all just say a little prayer for this person and the family to keep them safe and also for everyone else at these concerts that they may have some common sense to them.

I am glad that people like that are NOT a true representation of DMB fans! Unfortunately, because it gets press, they cause the rest of us to get a bad rep! I find that lots of people assume strange things when they find out I'm a huge DMB Fan. I don't usually try to defend myself or explain because their minds are made up anyway, but it makes me made because every DMB fan I've "met" in person on on line as been terrific! A few jerks shouldn't make everyone think bad things of the rest of us!

I look forward to the DMB SPAC shows each year but this year was far from the usual. Living in Saratoga you know that things get crowded at SPAC during the summer especailly during DMB, but this year the security was horrible and I am very ashamed of it. I had to walk out from SPAC all the way to 50 because my ride was not allowed to come into the park after being told to go to the other enterance and then at the enterance being told to go to the police station...so if their intentions were meant to keep the park safe they were mistaken I had to walk 45 minutes in the dark with disgruntle and impatient drivers on the road which made it very unsafe for those who had to walk far to get to their cars. I would like to say how sorry I am SPAC is usually better than this and i know alot of DMB fans look forward to the SPAC shows but this year it was very unorganized and dangerous to those attending.

I'm so not surprised. No one could find their cars and kids were just running all over the place.
Standing at a cross street, many kids were in the street, and I remember a cop yelling, "get back on the sidewalk....all those drunk people sitting next to you at the show are now on the road!"
BE CAREFUL OUT THERE.

My guy and I walked for two hours Friday night searching for our vehicle because the cops gave us bum directions. Finally, we found a "nice" cop who gave us a ride and helped us find our car....he was bitching that the parking is not well lit and there are no signs.

maybe this is a stupid question but, why are people allowed to stay in the parking lots all night when the show has begun. i understand before the show there would be no way of monitoring that (unless they check tickets at the gate) , it would be tough, but -- I go to hartford every year and i have never felt as vulnerable and unsafe there as i did at SPAC. the first night i lost my car too and it was raining and we had to walk through a pitch black path in the woods which i refused to do so we had to walk this path to around near the pools. it was horrible. the second night we parked in the lots. we got there about 3:30. After the show, we left before encore, there were about 50 people that were still in the lots and had never left to see the show or didn't have tickets. it was very dark and they had been there all night drinking and doing whatever. they then partied after the show and then left. why is that allowed???? this is where the cops on their horses should ride through and say if your not going to the show then get out. SPAC is so concerned about drinking they fence everybody in the most uncomfortable muddy area with hardly any seating. If they care so much about that -- monitor the lots better. :chicken:

you said it dude.. my friends and i always bring a box of trash bags with us and you wouldn't believe the number of people who not only refuse to take one once the concert is over, but who LAUGH at the thought of actually cleaning up their own trash, let alone someone else's. i can't stand people like that!!!! you go to a concert, have an awesome time, and CLEAN UP when you are done. that is the way to do it- have respect for the venue and the artist as well! cleaning up trash takes 2 minutes. everyone should bring bags with them- not all the people blow us off. so many take bags and clean up and it looks much nicer so quickly.

Thanks for posting the articles. It is just awful. The fact that she was walking way in the grass off the highway is were everyone walks. So ,many people were walking backto their cars that way. we all do that leaving a concert. you just never know. saratoga needs to rethink their parking situation. Every venue needs to consider the dangers.

i'm obviously very late in responding to this thread.. i was doing a search for something else and i came across this and seeing that i was not even 50 yards away when it happened i was curious to know what had happened to that lady.... very very sad.... my thoughts and prays go out to the family....
on the flip side,, with all the ado the cops that were directing traffic were by her side in minutes and the emergency crew was on the scene immediately.... i tip my hat to those folks....
we need to, in the words of djm , be good to each other and look after each other....

Hey y'all. I work in the jail that kid was housed at. His name was Alexander Bennett. He just went upstate for 3 1/2 to 10 years. Good. Why cant people just go to the shows, party it up, and then be safe? It's supposed to be a "Good, Good Time", not a place where we should be acting in a manner detrimental to other people's safety.
Did he go to sing-sing? Remember this guy was not at the show.

no. he went to Downstate to await transfer. He was fucking loaded when he killed her. We had to search his cell one night and we found all his legal documents and shit and there were pictures of the body. Surprisingly, he was a very smart, kind and well-mannered guy. Just made some really bad choices and fucked up BIG TIME.
