I understand the countdown thing was fun but the result is a thread that's prohibitively tedious to navigate- would be useful to have a functional meetup thread for Alpine. Thx

As far as the actual meetup goes, typically when we get a little closer and definite plans have been set.. Meetup location to caravan in, members attending... etc... Post #1 will be updated :) Till then, we all just shoot the shit with Alpine excitement. (I doubt you'd find any useful information in the last 40 pages of this thread, countdown or not.)

Sorry about the countdown. I've been doing it since I became a member over 4 years ago. It's not that big of a deal (at least in my opinion). Anyways, as the show gets closer more details will emerge with what we're going today.

Yesterday was 37 days, and today is 36 days! Happy Friday everyone!

Thank You at Alpine IS a badass thing to witness in person, especially after an awesome show (which they all pretty much are there right???). I'd be ok with them doing that 1 night. Not sure I'd be up for a Halloween to close though... it's an awesome song but not the longest or best I've seen close. Who knows, as long as they play, I'll be alright :)

Agreed. I've seen Thank You close a couple of shows, it's generic and does nothing for me. I'd like to see the Halloween>Billies encore they've been doing close one of the nights. And, maybe something like Typical and Warehouse the other night :)

Also, if someone is chanting for Thank You near me, is it ok if I punch them in the face? In New York, we can do shit like that, but is that frowned upon in the Midwest??

Honestly, if you were to see what Thank You was like at Alpine and the 20 minute fan-based encore, you'd be less likely to try and punch someone in the face. You might even join in without knowing it and like it!

Here's the thing I love about Thank You compared to other songs of theirs. When Dave's in his moment of glory in the song, and he rips off his microphone / ear piece and starts to really jam and 'dance' and then rejects his guitar from the guitar dude and CONTINUES to dance and have fun....that right there is one of the 3 main reasons I love this band. They GET the music, they GET their fans, they're there to not only perform but to have FUN. Those are the moments that I remember most at a show. Not necessarily songs played since they were formed that you can hear on a lot of cds, not 'rare' songs that people love to chant for, not a 5 minute songs...it's what the band does with them. A song like Thank You at Alpine can make the show.

OK, you can return to your regularly schedule countdown

Okay so my brother is an idiot and stayed up most of the night and all morning taking care of his sick girlfriend (cute, sure. but not on my DMB day god damnit) so he is like a zombie right now. In any other circumstance, I'd agree with you, hands down. I've heard Thank You WAY to many times and I'm not necessarily a fan of the song to begin with. DMB or not. BUT.... it's just different at Alpine with the crowd getting into it.

I'm kind of surprised by the strong negative reaction by those that have been there for the Thank You's at Alpine in years past... :dunno:

Okay so my brother is an idiot and stayed up most of the night and all morning taking care of his sick girlfriend (cute, sure. but not on my DMB day god damnit) so he is like a zombie right now. If we leave later, skip tailgating, does it ever get to a point where a lot closes or fills up or what have you? Ive never gone to a show later then say 3 pm haha. How does that work. ayuda?!

Learned this from experience huh...I remember the 1st year I met you....uh huh:jeffbrat:

In any other circumstance, I'd agree with you, hands down. I've heard Thank You WAY to many times and I'm not necessarily a fan of the song to begin with. DMB or not. BUT.... it's just different at Alpine with the crowd getting into it.

Ok, fair enough. If and when they close with it, I will experience it with an open mind :)

Absolutely. I'd love to see the rare double encore for this though. The band plays their encore, everyone loves it, then on their way to the buses, they hear the fans and come running back. I mean, that's what we all were hoping for with that 20 minute fan-driven Thank You encore right?

Yes, yes you should :bigwink:

I don't believe there is a list started. I do think this would be a good idea. If y'all want to post what you are bringing or what you want to bring, I can add it next to your names in the first post.

Condiments, paper products, Snacks, Burgers, brats, bacon explosions, crack chex mix, strip-n-go's.... I am sure the list goes on. Is someone bringing the cooler for the strip-n-go's?

This is two weeks away!!! :excited:

theponderousman

I've got the Strip n Go Naked cooler and grill of course, and I have a 5ft table I can bring. I'll be bringing the brats, probably about 50 or so depending on the price and all. If someone could grab buns, that'd help out!

I also have one of those canopy tents, but if someone else can bring at least 1 more, the more shade the merrier. I have testicle toss and polish horseshoes, if someone wants to bring a cornhole game, go for it.

Along with the above, here are things I'm planning to bring that you don't have to worry about:
Grill utensils
paper towels
trash bags
I can bring an extra folding chair or 2 if someone wants me to?

Off the top of my mind, what we'll need is:
-Another canopy
-Hot dog buns
-Condiments
-Plates / plastic ware
-Strip n go naked mixings : 1.75 cheap vodka, 12 pack cheap beer, 1 gallon water, 6 frozen lemonades, 1 bag ice (I have the spoon to mix...I'm that cool)
-Other stuff to grill
-Davestick
-Snacks n snacks
-Guitars, drums, etc... I have two small bongo drums I'm planning to bring

And yes, I have a camelpack for Katie :)

Dwill26

I can't believe the 'dmb at Alpine madness' is only two weeks away.
So, so excited - this has been the longest I have gone in between
shows since I started this whole thing way back in 1996.

Anyhoo, I make dorky dmb care packages (dmb cd mixes, maps, places
to eat, weird art pieces, camping info, etc) when we go on roadtrips
for every car in our group and this year I am throwing in potential/hopeful
setlist scans that I made, see below ->

Take note: these are not, by any means, dream setlists! I tried to
be REASONABLE with these, using all but three songs they haven't
played up to this point, making sure all new songs are in there,
and also eliminating some of my personal 'clunkers' (Cornbread,
Eh Hee, Stay or Leave, Satellite, etc). Also, I tried to make them
look as "authentic" as possible, adapting titles to match and leaving
out seque marks, although, you can probably figure out which spots
will work for segues and such. BTW, one more thing, since the dmb
catalog continues to grow, this is hard to do - I kind of feel sorry for
Dave because it is really hard to pick when you only have so many
slots to fill.

Dan are you doing strip N Go's both days?

I can grab the buns, ketchup, mustard (what else does everyone want on their brats?), I assume we will make a grocery run Friday morning? I also assume everyone is bringing their own stash of solo cups? It wasn't mentioned, but I will grab some of those too so we have extras.

And I don't know Dan, those Blue Ninjas....and honestly, knowing my luck, I'd buy all those brats, not be able to grill them, then have 50-60 brats in my freezer that Katie won't let me eat quick enough

That's what I'd think. There's actually wildfire warnings here in Cincinnati, mostly due to the fireworks coming. I hope people can be smart. If we can't grill, I'm sure we can find a way to still feed the masses.

Alright Dave and Sharif. What night is DMB Jersey night? N2 again?

Either night, of course, we'll have the jerseys. Might want to wait and see what the weather is going to be like. I remember a couple years ago it was chilly N1 and really humid N2.

My issue with the grills is that this weekend and next is going to be crazy for fireworks. They'll have better luck searching cars for fireworks than something being caused by a grill fire if you ask me. While I understand their need to act safe and not have grills, fireworks are going to be a cause for fires, not grills.

And honestly Dave, I'd bring em if there's a chance, but I'd be shocked if they'll magically allow them. I'm not planning to buy them till Thursday of next week though regardless. If we don't do them though, I'm just going to suggest everyone fend for themselves for sandwich meats, cold pizzas or something like that from a local place. There's an awesome sandwich shop down the street from that McDonalds that I had gone to like 3 years in a row that was great.

And I would never anticipate Alpine being a cool evening, especially not this year. Sure, bring a blankey just in case but I'm expecting prett much hot ass weather this year.

You're absolutely right about the fireworks... and Charcoal grills more than a Gas grill could cause a fire. And I was only halfway joking about the pineapple brats... If no grills, could we work out a side deal for you to buy me like 10 of them?

Cheers to Alpine! :dbud:
