Hey fellow DMB fans...I was just wondering about what the cost of the Alpine weekend is overall. I am planning to take a trip out there this summer and would love to make this happen.

Due to popular demand, this is now the Official Alpine 2010 thread. Start makin' yer plans.

It cost me about 360 dollars with tickets, travel, beer, etc, but I also stayed a friends place, so no hotel costs or anything

Depends on your costs really... are you flying or driving? Going to both nights? Pavilion or lawn? Hotel or camping? Do you drink in the venue at the show? Do you compulsively buy posters, t-shirts, etc.?
Here's a couple standard costs that may help you...
Lodging
Holiday Inn: $120/night
Camping: (Never camped at Alpine, someone else could maybe throw out some costs here.)
Tickets
Pavilion: $75/ticket (2 night stand = $150 per person)
Lawn: $40/ticket (2 night stand = $80 per person)
Beer
In the venue: $7.50
Strip n Go Naked: Free at the WDS tailgate
Food
Standard stadium prices inside the venue... parking lot is a great place though to tailgate and bring your own grill and do your thing pre-show to save big dollars.
Really, its all on you. Last year, I shared a hotel room with 3 other people at the rate above... so it was $60 for the hotel, $150 for the tickets, 3 tanks of gas = $90, and then food and drinks up there, so yeah, I think $360 was a decent number... Gas cost would've decreased if I rode to Alpine with people and didn't drive solo.

Camping is cheap ($15-$30, per night), but make sure you make reservations. It is a giant pain in the ass if you wait until you get there.
I have stayed at three different campgrounds in the past:
Scenic Ridge, Snug Harbor and Counry View, listed in order of party-friendliness. Scenic Ridge, all night bashing - Country View, quiet and family friendly.
If you haven't experienced the AWESOME CRAZINESS of Alpine,
I highly recommend. :dbud:

I make the journey from Illinois. I stay in Racine which is about 45 minutes north of East Troy, in a Knights INN. The room was about 105 for 2 nights. I take about 400 with me and im good for the weekend. And yes I buy both posters, beer at the show, and whatever else I feel I need for a good time.
Its worth the journey. Alpine is beautiful. Looking forward to seeing everyone there in about 8-9 months.:lol:

Also, WDS peeps... Kim was talking about the Alpine lodge this year... Obviously, this is something that will book up the day dates are announced as well, but its literally right behind the venue, no dealing with traffic and such... and way cheaper than a Holiday Inn... Something to think about... :)
Where is Kim? We need her to go ahead and take all these off-topic posts and just make this the Alpine 2010 thread since planning is well underway... In November 2009.

Um, no. Back in '04 it was $200/night. And, the rooms look like a $50/night room. But, I'd do it again since you don't have to deal w/ traffic, getting in and out of the lots, and you have your own separate entrance to the venue.

OMG ...I'm saving for Gorge but I've read so many good things about Alpine that I'm considering Alpine instead of Gorge??...it'll be closer too!!! hum I'll see when we get the dates cuz I also want to do tri state area shows.
Ill be going to Alpine again unless their is a tour break right before it. I think the sound is great there, at least in reserved. And the band definitely puts on something special, the people are great and its a nice place. However if I can only make it to one show or I decide I need to start investing more and spending less, I'll be going to the Gorge. And I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't been there yet.

At the moment, I'm planning on doing both. We'll see how it pans out. I'll have to cut back on my local shows... but I've been to those venues a million times and have only been at Alpine once and 0 times to the Gorge.

 I wasn't disagreeing w/ him though - just giving him a hard time for talking about it in the Alpine thread. I've never been to the Gorge but based on pics I don't see how anyone can argue that the Gorge isn't the most physically beautiful venue. It's gorgeous.
Alpine definitely has a natural beauty to it, but IMO the appeal is more about the people.

I know! I was thinking the same thing. See that skinny road by the yellow truck? That's the way you walk in from the resort. I'm really leaning toward the resort next year. :) I just want to know if you can get from there to the lots w/o walking 5 miles.

Chris and I got a few beers in as well... It was a good 15-20 minute walk. As well as all the comments about how the Brewers and Cubs are better than the Reds. That got annoying fast, lol.

Yep, the Reds were playing the Brewers that weekend, and all the Cubbies fans come up from Chicago. Once they saw the "Matthews #41", most were cool with it, though.
Anyways, The Reds jersey will not be making the trip to Alpine this year. The Alpine Valley shirt that Anna and I made will be coming back. Alpine Valley makes you wanna STAY!!!

That picture just always makes me smile :)
As much of a fun idea as the resort is, I'd hate to not have 4-8 cars lined up for our tailgate with tents, coolers, tailgate games, flags and everything...that's a great part of the experience for me and only a small group of us would know about the lodge area or even be able to join up there.
Just my friday morning ramblings :)
And yes, never again will I park in the green lots. Once (in 2003) is too much for me there
Looks like we're gonna have to arm wrestle to settle this.

I absolutely love that picture!!!
I have thought about the lack of cars for the tailgate too Christian.... plus as Dave said - if it is $200 per night - that is pretty steep and then add in the fact of not enough cars for tailgating space.... I think I would lean toward the hotel and lining up as we did last year.
Oh Cathy, not you too? You're killin' me here.
But you get to walk there, for the day there's a pool, you can golf. Did I mention you can walk?

Kim, I'd rather get out to the lots early and tailgate all day... While the whole idea of the pool and such sounds nice, it just doesn't do anything for me when its double the price.

hahaha. Well, if we split between 4 of us girls, thats $50 per person each night... not too much more then you would spend splitting a regular hotel. I'd spend an extra $20 a night not to have to rent a car for one, then drive over 40 minutes back to the hotel each night.. ANNNND sit in traffic.

See for me, part of the FUN is the driving part, and that's coming from a guy that typically has about 7.5 hours of driving to just the hotel, then another 30-40 for the trip to the venue. It's SO worth it! AND...where we're at in beloit (35 mins from venue), there's places to eat and a Wal-Mart for 2nd day supplies :)
But Kim, if your rebellion begins to get TOO big and not just 4 hotties, then you MAY not be invited to the tailgate. You can relax at the funhaters meeting by your fancy schmancy pool while the REAL fun is in the lots. Snob :)

As far as our room, I draw the line at 2 people per bed so I think we're full. But we've got a big group going to this thing so I'm sure there'll be plenty of opportunities to get in with someone. We had alot of us at the same hotel this year and most of us are looking to save money.

That would be great, would you be willing to drop us of at the Lodge? Actually, if you fly into Milwaukee, it's 40 minutes to the hotels in Beloit.. then another 40 past that to Alpine. That would be waaay out of your way. Now, If you fly into Chicago.... that might work. How much are rental cars anyway? Might be too much of a hassle if we're staying at different places...

Right. I wanted to fly into Miluwakee last year, (it would have been easier for Dave to pick me up) but... it was considerably more then flying into Chicago at the time. We'll have to wait and see how that pans out.. and just keep eachother in mind. It def would be nice to share to cut costs..

Its actually just the opposite... more like this, Jenny.
Milwaukee --40 miles--> Alpine Valley --40 miles--> Beloit
Alpine Valley is right in the middle and not really out of their way, just FYI.

It was actually more on my way to get you in Chicago too! I drove through Chicago on my way there. Milwaukee would've required me driving an extra hour to the airport, then the extra hour back to Beloit.
And Cathy: The bedsheet mention was not meant to be dirty. Jenny has a thing about bed sheets... if they aren't to her princess specifications, she gets mad.

Yeah we need to work on that! Alot of people didn't make the group photos. I think before you leave the tailgate, you gotta yell "group shot!". At least you managed to get in the paint stick vid.
Cathy W
11-14-2009, 07:40 AM
Maybe for the group shot me try to plan it in the planning stages of the tailgate, like say there will be a group pic taken around 3 pm or something to that effect. That way if you want to be in it you can plant to arrive around then or make sure you are back by then if you leave, if you don't plan to hang the entire day at the tailgate.
I mean we don't want a schedule or anything to follow, but if we have some sort of time idea just for a picture we can get everyone in and we aren't looking around for people not there or waiting for them to get there. If you are there you are in the shot, if not you are out of luck.

Wow! Listen here ladies! I run my life! I just think that if I'm gonna be using my vacation time, I'd rather use it to do something with her that we can both enjoy. I'm not gonna make her fly to Wisconsin to go see DMB if she'd rather do something else. I love her and her happiness is the key to my happiness. Yin and yang ladies.

Ahh... Looks like somebody is still in the 'honeymoon' stage.
Just Kidding... It's nice that you and your GF can work together on those sorts of things. My BF knows that summer time is DMB-time and not to get in the way. Of course, you're a different kind of fan, so missing something as awesome as Alpine isn't as heartbreaking to you as it is to us.

haha honeymoon stage. Nah I just try to maintain a good relationship with the girl who lets me see her naked. And no I'm not the same kind of fan as you guys. I could never justify spending that money to go see them. I'll tell you what. If Tim isn't involved in the 2010 tour, I will make an honest effort to go to Alpine.

She certainly doesn't tell me what to do. It just seems to be a dick move to say "Sorry, I'm going to wisconsin to watch dmb. I don't care what you would rather do for a vacation." And I'm not hijacking it. I said that if Tim doesn't come on the 2010 tour, I'll make an effort to go.

when the dates came out, i told my friends I was going to book us the campground...in march. But, my buddy, who camps alot with his family, told me he would do it cause he knows the best places and how to do it and so forth.
So around rolls July, I assumed he did it months ago and he imformed me that he had forgotten all about it but it was okay he would still find one. Well he didnt so our only option was to drive up to Wisconsin on Thursday morning, really really early, and try to get one of the 40 sites they set aside each weekend for walk ups. We got the last two....i was almost ready to murder him.

This is my dilemma as well. The money... first of all. Then, the whole what am I gonna do for camping supplies and stuff when I get there... I'm too needy and other things to do something without it being planned for the most part. I'd be having a panic attack if I just picked up and went.

I have the money for the most part if I plan accordingly, but The Gorge ALWAYS falls on Labor Day weekend which is also the same 5 day period I play in a national volleyball tournament in Aspen, CO. If I didn't make any DMB show during the year I'd consider the Gorge, but with Alpine, I get my awesome shows :)

Well I live in Delaware... so it would be a reeeally long drive for me. Last year I flew into Chicago, about a two hour flight. From there it was about a 45 minute drive to our hotel in Beloit. I've driven from Omaha to Alpine each year since 2002. It's about an 8 hour trip (including stops and checking in at hotel) and I've pretty much done it the Saturday morning of the show, get to the venue, tailgate, show, post-tailgate show (necessity), drive back to the hotel. All in all, those can be 20-22 hour days depending on when the backway to the lots open up after the show's over
The drive back to Omaha on Monday...not AS fun although there's an outlet mall about half way home that has a Nautica store that keeps my wardrobe going for a bit longer

I'm a roadtripper. From Cincinnati to the hotel is about 6 hrs... and I do that generally the day of the show to save myself the money for another night in a hotel. This year, I'm thinking of driving to Chicago Friday night (assuming the shows are a Sat/Sun combo again) and staying with my buddy Ryan so I only have a 1.5 hr drive on Sat. morning. The benefits of knowing someone in the Chicago area.
I'm in the Twin Cities and my drive is about 6 hours. I agree with Christian, the drive back on Monday is not nearly as fun as the drive there. This year I am definitely not going to plan getting on the road by 7 and try to work a half day.
