I was discussing this with the friend who introduced me to DMB some 14 years ago and we talked about the following questions:
1. Will there even be a new album?
2. Will they bring in guests?
3. Will unreleased studio tracks be used? SUAD, 40, JTR, (dare I say Machead) or use jam sessions that featured LeRoi?
4. Will another artist come in for LeRoi
I'm sure a new studio album will come but I can't make up my mind how they will fill in the gap. As a fan of the Beatles Anthology I've always wanted to see something similiar happen with DMB and now may be the occasion. I'm sure a lot of guests will come but I'm not sure how the fan base will react to someone taking LeRoi's place.

Thats a very very interseting idea, and I dont see them doing it, but then again I could see em doing it you know.
What I think is that they'll finish this album for Roi, I'm sure he wantd them too, and then I think thats their last album together. But I know that the band will go their seperate ways and make albums (especially Dave).

I dont think this is going to be DMB's last album together. I think they will call it quits when they are all ready not because of an accident that happened to the band.
I can see that they might have a guest or guests join in to finish the album

I don't see it as their last album either - maybe one for a while. there's enough examples with their musical peers to keep going ... let's remember Dave played a show the night of his sister's death

I was talking about this today as well. It's been said that the music for the new album was done, and they were just waiting for Dave to write lyrics. I can only hope that they already captured some album quality recordings of these songs and once the lyrics are written, they can dub in Dave's voice over the music. This way we'll still have one last album with sweet Mr. Moore. It's a long shot, but definitely in the realm of possibilities....

Yeah thats right, I forgot the music was supsoedly recorded...I just hope we get as much of LeRoi as possible on this next album. And I also think that LeRoi's passing will lenghthen the release date of it...

I worked for SonyBMG and in the executive meeting for RCA, they said the new album was going to be released in October. I sincerely doubt that it will be released then and even told some of the higher ups that they are sorely mistaken, but we will see what happens. They had recorded a lot with Roi and I bet they will use what they can of his playing.

I'm pretty sure the show was cancelled when his sister died...I think that's what I remember from the episode of VH1 Driven.

I hope it's not their last album, and don't think it will be, Roi wouldn't want them to stop making music together because of his accident. He is up there watching them and will always be a part of the band.

I stand corrected, the show was 2-3 days after her death Jan 29 94. He mentions it briefly
how do we know the basic tracks have been recorded but not lyrics?

I am sure that the album will be released and whether or not they bring someone in to take Roi's place in the studio, the album will be a tremendous way to honor him.

I think it would be cool (assuming Roi's parts haven't been recorded) to have different artists that knew Roi play sax on each track... maybe give Jeff two or three because he helped the band out so much.

Many had wondered why #27 was called that seeing as how it didn't fit (i.e. it wasn't the 27th song Dave/the band wrote). Dave claimed it was the 27th song from what they had worked on in the studio for the new cd (I forget the source on that so sorry fanatics. . .although you can prob vouch for me on this then). As such, maybe they do have enough material to release a new disc; no one knows for sure how far they got. . . if it were as far as the "Lilywhite Sessions" then I suppose they are in business. . . it will be interesting to see what transpires and I only hope (with Roi being a founding father of DMB {so to speak} they do continue on. . . .

The next album WITHOUT Roi??? that is hard to comprehend. Well i'm deff- interested and look forward to it, Roi will be there during the recordings in spirit i'm sure.So I'm as anxious as the rest of you. I think there will be alot of emotion on this album reguardless of what songs we think will make it to the final cut. I can certainly see a more serious and dynamic feel to the next album, something more intellectual than "Stand Up". Dave was always very in touch with what was going on around him at any given time in his lyrics, take for instance the death of his sister or father, those things obviously had a profound effect on his writing, and out of those tragic experiences he became heavily influenced with "life and death" which inturn inspired him to write a good portion of the the greatest dmb songs ever. who knowes
^you make a good point, this will have some serious impact in his writing...

I hope the guys will not quite making music, but I could see this upcoming album being their last. But I do not think they would quite touring. I do however see a LONG break after this tour so that the guys can spend more time with their families.

The thought of DMB's "last album" makes me tear up a little. I don't think this will be their last at least that is what I hope. LeRoi will never be replaced, but he being a muscian would want the band to continue to play. He loved music it was his life and in order to remember his life and pay tribute to it DMB should continue to play! I think they know that, but its hard to imagine The Band without his beautiful influence. Its going to be hard to capture "the sound" without him, but now is the time for Dave, Carter, Boyd, and Stefan to let their talent loose. Play on DMB!

Just thinking about it...Roi's last album was Stand Up. Does this mean we will all embrace the album and call it a masterpiece because of the sentimental value?

Probably not a masterpiece, but maybe we wil like it a little bit more.
I really don't see them stopping anytime soon, Roi would not have wanted them to do that. I also don't see them replacing him. (Well he is just not replaceable) I am thinking guest sax/horn players from here on out. Or maybe have Jeff be an honorary member.
Who knows??? Only they know what they will do and no matter what, they will do what they do in honor and in memory of Roi.

I was thinking that this might be the path they choose. Does anyone remember Gov't Mule after Allen Woody died? Gov't Mule continued to tour with guest bassists. The Deep End tour was huge with over 20 stand in bass players from Stefan, Les Claypool and Victor Wooten to Phil Lesh, Mike Gordon, Jason Newstead, Billy Cox, Jack Cassady, Mike Watt, Roger Glover, Flea and many others before the band decided to attain Dave Schools.
I could easily see DMB doing something similar to this. I can imagine guests from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band or Karl Denson playing a few shows and Jeff has done a great job already.
As far as the album, a lot of musicians record vocals over the music tracks after the music is already written. I'm sure the DMB is already used to doing it so I'd say its a good possibilty that the album will have LeRoi tracks and this will be his last album not Stand Up.

if this doesnt give them motivation to make a great album, just call it a day. if they put out an album, and it is dedicated to roi, i really hope they put all their effort and time into it. to give less than a 110% wouldnt be rightt

After watching Night two at Staples I think it's safe to say that the boys are playing extra hard for Roi... I can only assume the album will have the same drive behind it

I had said something similar in another thread yesterday... it seems that the more miserable Dave is... the better his music. It is so sad but its true. I thought about it, when the band hit 1998... everything was great and happy in Dave's life, then came Everyday... a huge drop off from BTCS.
Like you said, he is HEAVILY influenced by the events that surround him, and it seems like the more tragic, the more he feeds off of it. Poor guy:lol:
I can see this album being up there with their best. I can hear LeRoi's sax on Shotgun

I was thinking about this while packing up for school...
Maybe the best thing about the whole situation is that he wasn't able to tour for a while before he died. While I would have prefered having Roi (obviously), having Jeff Coffin on tour was a bit of a breath of fresh air. The fact that he was able to come in and become a major contributor on this tour is a great indication that all talented musicians can play with this band, which means that the band will most definitely continue into the future.
