Not too sure if you can do this anymore, but what about getting 1 of those "1000 hours free AOL" cds that you NEVER want to get, sign up listen, and quit instead of rejoining? Of course, now that you WANT 1 of those cds, you probably won't be able to FIND one ;)

My guess is that someone will record it at the show anyway... or someone will record it from AOL streaming.
And I think they may put this on a live CD. Why? Gut feeling, and wasn't the Central Park concert on AOL live stream also? And they put that on CD, so I think this show will end up on an official CD as well.
I'll let you all know how it is!

I personally LIKE seeing people excited about shows. I'm not going to Camden or any other show in NY or NJ this year... before Roseland was announced I didn't even think I'd get to see Dave this year. (Made me super jealous of my mom who sees him at the Gorge every year, LOL.) I love reading reviews from shows I can't make it to. It's exciting. I love seeing people happy and excited before shows too.
Thanks Bryan. = )

the band is on tonight, and they look like they're enjoying themselves... five of the six they played were the better songs on the album (note, no Stand Up or Old Dirt Hill)... I'm still not getting Louisiana Bayou, though. All the songs sound so much better live.
Nevertheless-- the concert was awesome, wish I was there... hope someone has recorded some part of it! :boings: SUMMER '05!!!
oh, and I loved how Carter and Dave were playing off the audience-- yet more proof that DMB is one of the best performers of all time.

I think they knew the mixed/negative reaction from fans were coming. I'm glad they went ahead with it though, fans are obviously important but I'd rather the band stay happy then them stay in a rut trying to please fans. They could have easily recorded 5-7 minute versions of the new live songs and added a few more in and most fans would have been happy. But they went with what the band wanted to do and they are obviously happy with the outcome otherwise it wouldn't have been released.
I'm also sure they are ready to show us how good these new songs are playing them live!

Yahoo news spoke to the band after the Roseland show and they say that the boys during a sound check came up with two new songs. Other than that, that is all that was said. If anyone can find some info about this i would appreaciate it.

Someone over at Ants took the time to type this up:
Dave Matthew's jamming approach led to new CD
New approach leads to hit disc, eclectic mix
By Mark Kennedy
The Associated Press
New York-
The morning after a blistering three-hour concert to celebrate the release of their new album, members of the Dave Matthews Band were still jazzed- about the songs no one heard.
Long before fans streamed into the roseland ballroom or cameras began taping, Matthews and the band were just noodling around during sound check when they improvised what he called "two smoking tunes."
"They just came out of the blue," Matthews says. "The room was empty. First came the bass or the drums, and then everyone came in. It just happened. There was nothing and then there was something."
"It was too much fun," says bassist Stefan Lessard, smiling at the memory.
But we've never gone into the studio and done that. Ever," matthews says. " We do that at sound check and all of a sudden you see the guys setting the chairs up in the auditorium and they're grooving."
To capture that special, fleeting sound the Dave Matthews Band has reunited, hired a new producer and emerged with the summer time CD 'Stand Up'- their first studio album since 2002's 'Busted Stuff'.
New Dawn
"This was like a new day dawning in a way," Matthews says before he and Lessard start a day of doing radio spots to promote the new CD. Matthews still smells vaguely of post-concert Jagermeister as he chugs coffee fortified with four espresso shots.
The band-which also includes drummer Carter Beauford, violinist Boyd Tinsley, and saxophonist LeRio Moore- is basking in the CD's favorable reviews, and it sold 465,000 copies in its first week to debut at No. 1 on the album charts.
Some fan had worried the band might be losing its way after selling more than 25 million albums since 1991. Purists were unhappy with 2001's 'Everyday' and two members- Matthews and Tinsley- did solo albums.
Regrouping again last year, the band originally planned to work with multiple producers until they sat down in Los Angelos with Mark Batson whose hip hop heavy resume includes collaborations with Eminem and 50 cent.
"It wasn't much that we felt we needed a chang. It was more just sort of a challenge to see, at the time, what it would be like to work with different producers," Lessard says.
"Then we met Mark, and everything we'd been thinking before just went out the window. He just hit all of us in such a way that almost reminded ourselves of ourselves."
Just Jamming
Retreating to the band's Virginia recording studio- a converted home in the woods outside Charlottesville- Batson did something that seemed to enchant the band members: he took each aside and let them jam. Just like the sound check.
"They came to me and said,'We want to thump, we want to bang. We want to make a record that represents where we are right now,' Baston says in in a telephone interview. "I didnt want to get away from what it is that the band sounds like, but I did want to get into each individual and what they have to offer back to the band."
That translated into some unusual moments as the quintet got used to Batsons laid-back style, which often consisted of patiently teasing out killer riffs from each member.
"At one point, he just hit 'record' and said, "ok, play.' I had no clue what chords to use or even what to play,' says Lessard. "But at the same time, what you catch is so awesome. It's really like the essence of the song."
Matthews had a similar experience- one you can hear on the CD's first song.
"The second say I was driving home and we had the foundation for 'Dream Girl.' I had about and hour's drive and thought of the lyrics. And the next day I came in and said,'I think i've got some idea for lyrics.' And he said, "well, go sing.'"
Unsure of what exactly to sing or what melody to use, Matthews simply improvised. His intitia vocals on the completed track is sort of a lost moan, raw with emotion and energy. In other words, exactly what Batson wanted.
"A lot of it has this sort of instant quality to it. He didnt impose himself or what he thought of us on the process," says Matthews. "Coming to the table everyday intentionally empty-handed was really amazing. It was like going to school with nothing."
During the three-month recording process, Batson carefully saced all the great licks into a digital library. That's how 'American Baby' started- Tinsley's simple violin plucking becoming the skeleton of a song.
"Thats what i wanted to do: to get back to when the band first started. The moment of creation," Batson says. "I wanted to give them the space where they were kind of improvising but still in a structured environment."
The result is an eclectice mis of tunes: the cajun-ish "Louisiana Bayou", the soulful "Smooth Rider", the grunge insipired "Hunger for the Great Light", the funky "Stant Up". Each band members individual musical interests seem to emerge more starkly here than in other albums.
"With this record, because a lot of it was just shooting from the hip, you cant hide it. Its like, boom- thats what we sound like when we just sit down together and play with no obligation," Matthews says.
Even the way he went about writing the lyrics was different. Rather than wait until the songs were completed, Matthews scribbled away as they were being built- something the rest of the band appreciated.
"So right awat, you got a sense of the song and it was easy to see where they were going," Lessard says. "with every song, yougot put somewhere before you actually started playing it."
As for the lyrics themselves, Matthews offers his usual brew of thinly disguised left-leaning political pronouncements and bittersweet love songs.
"In a way, its the smae things that im always drawn to singing about, although there are a couple of adventures away from that," he says. "Its always the same: A little bit of of death, a little bit of sex, and a little bit of love."

Nice article
but Winchester resident Ian White has a different problem: withdrawal. "It's a fixation," says White. "You don't realize it until after your fifth or sixth show. It's an addiction."

1. I sure would like to hear those soundchecks.
2. This band really, really needs to but a "Lost Dogs"-style album full of soundchecks.
3. Jaeger ... Dave ain't messin' around, is he?
4. People keep talking about the "Dreamgirl" lyrics as if they were good. They suck! How was "Out of My Hands" written? Or even EWU! Dreamgirl does not have good lyrics.

good article...Hate to be a pessimistic but i think its pretty clear in this article that dave didn't spend a whole lot of time on the lyrical process of Stand Up. I annalyze this album and this article and it makes sense that alot of the lyrics are not classic Dave style lyrics, in which i mean very indepth and thought provoking. Instead it just seems alot of the lyrics were just thrown together to match certain "jams" that the rest of the band came up with, obvioulsy that part of it, is a new approach, which seems to stand out as a draw back for me personally. I think its just more of an easy going statement type album (considering the title) rather than the classic, complex, drawn out Dave poetry which is on every other DMB album.I can go on and on about this but i don't want to rant, but compare lyrics here...Think of the complexity of the lyrics from songs like: #41-Dreaming Tree-If i had it all-Satellite-Ants-what you are-spoon-warehouse-i'll back you up-Bartender-big eyed fish- raven-grey street. Even the classic love songs have more mass and meaning behind them, then those of which are on Stand Up like: Crash-Stay -Rapunzel-Crush-WTWE-So right-Say goodbye-Space Between Etc. Now sit back and compare the lyrical style from any other DMB album to Stand Up... and there is an obvious lack. Don't get me wrong I love the album for what it is, and the new style is tight. Its just for me, as a DMB fan his lyrics were the first thing that immediatly got me hooked, the amazing and unique sound of the band is an obvious 2nd!.Anyways just in my opinion the fact that this is considered just more of a (like i said) an easy going statement type album, rather than an open book of twists and turns through emotions, deep thoughts and love ballads, just acts as a draw back. Just My Two cents and critical my over critical side speaking out. :screwy:
On a more positive note these songs are gonna rock out in live!!!:boings:

i agree with you spoon. I felt like this is the worst writing he has done. I just think more time could have been put into them. I think batson had a lot to do with that. But it was a good experience for them. As for the sound check, i read the article last week on yahoo news and Dave and the band seem pretty stoked about those two new jams. Hopefully we will get to hear them soon on the tour.

Cool,
Maybe they are playing them live now. Have never heard The Trouble With You before the accessory cd to Stand Up.

Thanks....can you see it on there? I think I'll have to go watch it again....I kept rewinding it and listening for a tease of some sort, but didn't hear it, nor did the almanac say anything....I'll definately go watch it again.....they must have said or done something because of it, cause the audience started cheering not long after......
