I've always been told that it was a design Dave came up with because from the stage, that was how the girls in the crowd looked to him when they were dancing. Not sure if it's true but I've heard this a lot. It's pretty cool anyway!

I think Dave did draw the design.

the firedancer is a sketch Dave drew back in the day...it comes from the song Trippin Billies.

Dave uses the reference of the firedancer in the song. But it is an original drawing done by dave along with the dancing 8 and a few others if you do some searching.

I think Nany is refering to the fact that it is Silver and not a flame....I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Dave put his Firedancer in the freezer (by mistake of course) and the Silver "fire"dancer is the end result. I actually refer to it as the icedancer.

actually... i think she is just a newbie and didnt know what the firedancer was at all...and i think a lot of peopel are gonna star associating it with Stand Up...too bad....i hope it doesnt get out of hand.... but as for the silver dancer....you have to ask Stefan...he designed the cover for the album.

I would say they made it chrome colored just because.... well, .... it looks pretty damn sweet, thats why. I doubt that there is any different meaning behind the silver. Just a design.

everyone says that....i dont think so....i think the large lump in the center is its head, not its chest like a lot of people say. i see her as kind of looking down.

sorry to bring this back up, but i was listening to dave and mark roebuck cover "in god's country" by U2 and caught this line:
"naked flame / she stands with a naked flame"
precursor to the fire dancer? by the way, if you haven't checked out this "Tribe of Heaven" CD, you really need to. pretty nice stuff on there.

Im kinda curious to know where you heard this info..

I meet Stefan a few years back and he even called it a Firedancer.. and I do remember seeing some firedancer stickers back in 01 tour and they called them firedancer too.

i thought the firedancer also came from trippin billies...... but i also heard a few times that it was from dancing nancies. my teacher used to call the firedancer a dancing nancie. i always thought he was wrong but then i saw a shirt on sale from dmband.com that had the firedancer with dancing nancie lyrics in a circle around it. what do yous think?

yeah i read the thread. but r you all exactly sure its from tippin billies? i know the line u r talking about in the song "my yellow flame she dances" but has the band conformed that he made the firedancer after that line. or did we just hear the line and assume hes describing the firedancer? idk if im making sence. one person said that he read in 'set into the light' dave drew it up when he was 10. so wouldnt that mean trippin billies written when dave was 10?

Yeah, I couldn't find it either. I think he meant the lyrics refer to it, though. The only music video the fire dancer is in is What Would You Say. Look at the bottom left corner (right at the beginning) and there is a button with the image on it. It's surprising it goes back that far...

I found this interesting sculpture online today and I imediately saw the connection with the Fire Dancer. http://1930.fr/040807.htm The art house says that it is probably a work from Franz Hagenauer, who died in the 80s. I wonder if Dave saw it before drawing the design.

Good find! I definitely see the resemblance, especially with that silver color and how the firedancer is often silver (see Stand Up cover). Makes you wonder if it was an influence or just a strange coincidence
